How much easier is life when it comes to DVDs. Pick whatever DVD you want. It's going to play on your DVD player. You don't have to buy a rival DVD player just to play it.
Should Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft come to some sort of agreement? A standard console on which all games would play. Mario, Gran Turismo and Halo all on the same console. All games on the same console for that matter.
Personally, I'm for such an agreement. I can only see the benefits as a consumer. There are many a game I like on consoles other than the PS2, but I can't afford to shell out for another console. I can only see such a move being positive for game developers. I really don't think it would stifle competition either. Developers would still be competing with each other to make the better game, regardless of the fact there would only be one console.
Imagine, no fanboys throwing insults at games just because they're on a rival console. Can't see it ever happening of course, but it's a nice thought.
