That's right, Life Day! With the holidays coming... It's time to celebrate!
Do not let Lucas and Disney deny it's canonicity.

The best worst thing ever seen on tv,
Although I've heard conflicting dates on when it should be "officially" celebrated.

As the date it aired ? Nov. 17
or
The day it aired - every Friday before Thanksgiving (this year would be Nov. 20)?

Is there an "official" fandom date for this? I'd like to pay my proper respects, to Chewie, Malla, Itchy, Lumpy and all their Wookie family.

Let us never forget! :cwink:

Either way, a thread to commemorate!

Sing along lyrics:

We celebrate a day of peace
A day of harmony
A day of joy we all can share
Together joyously.
A day that takes us through the darkness
A day that leads us into light
A day that makes us want to celebrate the light
A day that brings the promise
that one day, we'll be free...
To live, to laugh, to dream,
To grow, to trust, to love, to be.

Damn you for starting this thread!

This wonderful, wonderful thread. I can't get enough of the Life Day song. Trying to convince a young person or a casual SW fan that the SW theme song ACTUALLY HAS LYRICS, and then showing them that video and watching their face go from disbelief, to elation, to shock, to sadness, to anger, to despondency, it's a feeling that no type of drug or sex can replicate. :woot:

I haven't seen the Star Wars Holiday Special yet. Does the Rifftrax commentary count?

Ive never watched the Holiday Special...an accomplishment im very proud of.

You can tell Harrison Ford wants to get the **** out of there.

A day of terror if you watch that show.

If anyone wants it broken down in ten simple gifs then look inside. Be warned! It's not for the faint of heart:
It begins with a gnashing of teeth

Contrary to the movies, which portrayed him as possibly the next most incompetent Bounty hunter after Greedo, here (although psychedelically animated) he's actually more of a badass than in both movies.

How many Star War related holidays are there?
As the #date it aired - every Nov. 17?
or
As the day it aired - every Friday before Thanksgiving (this year would be Nov. 20)?
These figure inspired an idea to me head.
And the coming of that idea means I need help.
The idea is of brand :loco:

Yeah, damn my ancestors for the atrocities they've committed that cause me to be alive today.

I feel guilty for the genocide of brain cells that had to die while watching.
But the Wookie Cookies make it all better.

Our ancestors enslaved the Wookiees and made them build the Death Star. :csad:

Why, Force? whyyy?

Gimme! :drl:

This reminds me... I gotta get home in time for Life Day!

I love Harrison Ford's expression in this video. He knows everything has gone so very, very wrong.

I wonder how Lumpy feels about Han's death.

I hope Snoke is a shaved Lumpy.

Anyone celebrate ?
First year without Fisher.:csad:

According to Carrie Fisher, yes she had a copy of the Holiday Special that she enjoyed
showing at parties..."mainly at the end of the night when I want people to leave." - Carrie Fisher :funny:

LOL don't be afraid to check it out.
Granted it's a near unwatchable, painful and shameless sell-out by Lucas, which then spun-out of his control , into a musical variety show LOL!
Although some joke that's the best thing about it, others fast-forward through the musical numbers and skits, there is even an edit which just streamlines the "story" buried within; is a charming little story of Chewie and Han pursued by the Empire (and Boba Fett) , as they are trying to get to Kashyyyk and his family, for a cosmic 70's "Life-Day" celebration, which ends with Carrie Fisher belting out the Life-Day song.

Along with Wizard of Oz and it's a Wonderful Life, we regularly jokingly and to great delight, watch this edit every holiday season.
If nothing else, watch the animated segment (which contains Fett's first appearance) , posted on the previous page.

I remember when the Holiday Special was aired over here some year or so after the first SW movie had premiered. I was around 12-13 yo I think, and of course thought it was really cool that something SW-related would be shown on the telly. Boy, were us kids both disappointed and confused afterwards lol! I had totally forgotten about it until I found some SW discussions on internet.

I still don't even remember that animated part with Bobba Fett, which I actually think looks kinda cool. Reminds me of some of the European sci-fi illustrations of that era. I've thought for some 20 years or so that it might've been interesting to revisit this thing again, but haven't dared yet. At least it would take some serious amount of wine to feel comfortable lol.

The one to watch is a quick streamlined to about 30 min.
Here is a pretty descent edit, although still way to long, and they oddly left in the cantina number, but took out the animated segment, which is the best part. (added bellow)

I believe the segment was animated by Nelvana who were definitely channeling a bit of a cartoony Jean Giraud / Moebius style, and pallet.

Amazingly, unlike the movies, which portrayed Fett as possibly the next most incompetent Bounty hunter after Greedo, here (although psychedelically animated) he's actually more of a badass then in the actual movies. .
