There has been a fair amount of discussion about this, but I'm still unsure whether BND is a completely new re-boot and we are supposed to ignore previous continuity or previous continuity is still in place.

The biggest problem in my view is Harry being alive. It appears they want us to believe that previous continuity is still in place (by reference of Harry's apparent death, then recovery in Europe), but I don't see how can be. With Harry not dying huge chunks of stories are wiped out.

What stories are wiped from continuity as a result of Harry still being alive?

For one thing there is his plot from beyond the grave where there were robot versions of Peter's parents. That story makes no sense anymore.

Well, if you listen to Marvel, they'll try and sell it to you that is not a reboot....that Spidey simply now has an alternate history where he was never married, yet still have their cake and eat it too and tell you that everything was the same and that despite the alternate history, it is the same history and nothing changed, except for the marriage and many other highly significant things. And we all know that when you change the SLIGHTEST thing in TIME....it changest TIME CONSIDERABLY.

In this event, Joe wants to change HUGE things in time, AND tell us NOTHING CHANGED. (except for the things he wanted changed=AGENDA)

So....the answer depends.

Broken down very simply.....

1.) It is an ALTERNATE HISTORY (a REBOOT).

OR

2.) It is an ALTERNATE HISTORY THAT IS EXACTLY THE SAME, YET CHANGED. (NON REBOOT)

(FUNNY, IF YOU BUY EXPLANATION #2, but many do.
It's what Marvel and Joe have fed them.)

it's magic.

^ Yeh, i guess that would be option #3....

That It's MAGIC, and no one really knows if it is a reboot or not, not even the devil...!!??

Joe will know if it is a reboot or not, well, if he'll stick with it or not, after watching to see how far the numbers keep falling ((or stabalizing :cwink: )) because if they go too low, than he'll use magic to restore continuity and bring back the first history & ignore the newly created alternate history.
And then, it will have been his plan all along to reboot and unreboot Spidey. :csad::whatever:

I don't think that has been referenced.

haha reminds me of that little thank you note at the end of the other.
seriously, this guy has problems. I know you can't please everyone...but he welcomes anguish from fans...

and I love how they made a big deal out of retconning harry's death yet he barely is ever there.
I get a shock everytime I see him come into a comic. its like WHAT?! HARRY'S ALIVE?!

Honestly, I just haven't seen a point to bringing him back. I thought his becoming the Goblin and dying felt like the natural progression and end for the character. Now, all the people who read the book that don't know that Harry died in the comics willbe waiting for him to become the Goblin and die....again.

Regardless, I think th elast time Harry was interesting as a character was when he was the descending into madness as the Green Goblin. The few years prior to that, they tap-danced around it, and it honestly made Harry kind of stagnant as a character. He and Liz had little Normie, and then they barely showed up. Then, once we hit "The Child Within" arc, we got to see how unstable Harry's mental state was, and he became an interesting character again.

What is he now? A businessman playboy who went to Europe for a few years to get clean? Wow...that's interesting.:whatever:

Ok, so as Harry isn't dead - does this mean liz and he are still married?

Yeah have they covered that at all? Does Harry still have a kid or what?

Harry's only alive long enough to be the catalyst that explains how Lily used him to get the Goblin tech and become Menace.

Yes they have actually. Liz and Harry got divorced and yes there kid still exists.

Joe Quesada did away with the Parker marriage and the Osborn/Allen marriage. Was this the plan all along to free up Peter and Harry to get them together?

Harry's death is the only thing that I can see didn't actually change much history (save for unannounced things about Liz and Little Normie).

But it's the biggest piss of to me. Harry's death is one of my favorite stories of all time. I actually cried a bit while reading it. It was perfect.

And they brought him back for what? Nothing? What has he done that's of any value? Become generically tied to Menace somehow?

It's like bringing back uncle ben only to have him run a gas station in Kansas.

Pretty much. Although I suspect/hope that Menace is not Lily and that she's being set-up to be a red-herring. Rather, I think/hope Menace is actually Carlie Cooper. That way you have the drama of Peter's new potential love interest turning out to be a crazy supervillain and it helps to make Carlie more than just the bland substitute Gwen Stacy with a dash of Debra Whitman.

But aren't the new characters just modern day versions of the old spidey cast anyway??
