Has anyone else reached that point...

Because I sure have. I don't even have to read their posts. I just see that someone new has posted in a preexisting thread and just go "Oh well that's clearly Human Torch" or something.

That's when you know you've been posting here too long.

Lois_Lane right now:

... where anytime you see any new person on the Hype, you automatically assume it's someone that has already been banned?

It's because sometimes you'll see a new person, and from the get-go, they're combative or highly opinionated. Just right off the bat. Then it becomes very suspect that they've been here before.

That's the giveaway isn't it? I mean you're new the first thing would be to introduce yourself and get to know the place.

It depends on what this new person is posting.

I saw a "newbie" introduce himself and then get banned right away.

If you're a PBU, mods will know.

If you were banned and can't figure out how to come back without being noticed, than you fail at internetting. When I was over at the tfn boards years and years ago I had multiple accounts and never had an issue.

Yeah, but being opinionated and yapping at all you oldies in threads is how we get assimilated into Hype culture.

Not really, if you're smart enough on how to change your IP address and can keep your mouth shut they will never know. Even if you're not smart enough to know how to mess w/ IP stuff if you move you get a new one and BOOM! Unbanned again

Well yes, there are always exceptions.

Not always. Some PBU's last quite awhile before either getting called out, found out by mods, or banned for just being awful people a la Fudgie.

I'm at the point where I honestly believe 90% of new users are PBU's. I know that's not necessarily true, but with the amount of PBU's that do pop up again, it's hard to not be suspicious. It's almost always blatantly obvious when we have a PBU back to haunt us or a genuine new user that has joined up to talk about things they love or are interested in.

PBU red flags:

- They are immediately comfortable and confident, not hesitating to launch into a heated debate.
-They are almost always confrontational right from the start.
- Soon after they "join", they begin to post in threads or subforums that most real newbies wouldn't be interested in posting in or even be aware of their existence. It's safe to say that most real newbies don't join Superherohype to discuss films that are 4-20 years old, nor do they join to talk about nonsense or politics in the Community forum.
- They seem to be aware of previous "Hype events" or "infamous" users of past days.
- When called out as a previously banned user or even as a specific username that has been banned, they act offended and dare you to have a mod check their IP address, as if it would be impossibleeee for someone to get a new IP address.
- And obviously, it's often easy to draw parallels between their irrational, vitriolic opinions/posting styles and the opinions/posting styles of known banned users.

I've been posting in threads that ask for content like gifs and pics cause that's what I do on all the other forums I am on.

This thread is so goddamn true haha. The guy above me has been messaging me on Bookface pleading his case, he has me confused with someone important here! Then this Clark Kent guy shows up and within 19 post is already in the lounge and causing a ruckus in the politics section.

(Shatner voice): "I guess irony can be pretty ironic at times."

:hehe: Yeah, it's gotten pretty bad lately.

Oh, Clark is most definitely a previous banned member. Believe that. He is most likely using a proxy to change his ip.

My first assumption was that it was just the same person running through a bunch of Superman names. Lois_Lane, Bizarro!, now Clark-Kent. But he isn't really causing a fuss, or arguing with people, so it might just be a coincidence.

If you have need of a proxy just to post on a website then something is wrong with that scenario. Give up and go somewhere else.

After the return of Spock, I'm starting to think Sawyer's smuggling them back onto the hype for as yet unknown reasons.
