If you're a PBU, mods will know.
Not always. Some PBU's last quite awhile before either getting called out, found out by mods, or banned for just being awful people a la Fudgie.
I'm at the point where I honestly believe 90% of new users are PBU's. I know that's not necessarily true, but with the amount of PBU's that do pop up again, it's hard to not be suspicious. It's almost always blatantly obvious when we have a PBU back to haunt us or a genuine new user that has joined up to talk about things they love or are interested in.
PBU red flags:
- They are immediately comfortable and confident, not hesitating to launch into a heated debate.
-They are almost always confrontational right from the start.
- Soon after they "join", they begin to post in threads or subforums that most real newbies wouldn't be interested in posting in or even be aware of their existence. It's safe to say that most real newbies don't join
Superherohype to discuss films that are 4-20 years old, nor do they join to talk about nonsense or politics in the Community forum.
- They seem to be aware of previous "Hype events" or "infamous" users of past days.
- When called out as a previously banned user or even as a specific username that has been banned, they act offended and dare you to have a mod check their IP address, as if it would be impossibleeee for someone to get a new IP address.
- And obviously, it's often easy to draw parallels between their irrational, vitriolic opinions/posting styles and the opinions/posting styles of known banned users.
