Has anyone here ever had...

Well that's kind of an extreme case. If they find it impossible to go through life without feeling "normal" then I guess plastic surgery might help, but I think that it all comes down to self-esteem issues and how you see yourself. I also think that the way society has put a face on what is beautiful and set this unachievable standard on beauty, it just doesn't help too much.

yeah i get what you're saying. but then i just think well, if i had ****ed up teeth, a hook nose, how would i feel? i just always try to be myself in their position.

however there was this one dude, he looked a lot like patrick swayze before all his surgeries, he is a hairstylist in la. after all his surgeries...he looks like a fish crossed with an ape...i'm not joking

How about this, then? I want to be an actress. For that, I need to take good headshots. I know that I am a very pretty person, but there are a few things which keep me from being 'beautiful', at least in my own eyes.

I don't know...plastic surgery just doesn't seem like the "end all be all" to me. I just can't see someone getting plastic surgery and then truly feeling satisfied. We are always going to be unsatisfied with our look, its just the way we are.

...plastic surgery?

I've lately become addicted to plastic surgery shows, not sure why...

Ok, I just like to stare enviously at really pretty people.

I'm considering getting some work done (*gasp*), but I'm not exactly rich and kind of worried about possible results, and wondered if any of you have had any plastic surgery.

Also, I heard something about be able to 'finance' surgery.

Anyone have any experiences to share or helpful info?
I had to get in done after I broke out of prison...

Sarah Jessica Parker's career hasn't been hindered.

SJP might be a little... brittle-looking... but at least she still looks 'Hollywood'.

Agreed. But what's a kitchen witch?
It's a disgusting little White Trash knick-knack that was popular for 18 minutes in the late 70's or early/mid 80's or something.

an ugly witch with a big, warted nose and protruding chin, riding a broom and if it was magnetic you'd stick it on your fridge, or a larger one, if you were gross person with no taste, you'd hang it up on your kitchen wall.

I googled for images but it looks like they came to their right minds and started making cute Kitchen Witches............and I'm not going to make a big project of trying to locate images of the old hideous Kitchen Witches I remember from my youth. :)

But trust me, they all looked like Sarah Jessica Parker.

You know what, I remember them now. Yeah, definately SJP there.

I had a penis enlargement. Due to complications, I've lost about 80% of feeling down there. :csad: Plastic surgery ruined my life.

It's not about accepting or not accepting aging. My wife is considering a breast reduction once we're done having children. She's pretty well endowed in that area and it has always caused her back pain. Should she just accept a life time of back pain? What about burn victims? Should they just accept that their face is burnt up and skip the skin grafts and attempts to improve their looks?

What's the issue with people doing something that's going to improve their self-confidence if it's been proven to be safe? Or are you a Seventh Day Adventist who feels no woman should wear makeup, etc.?

ok good reasoning, but i like the jumping to conclusions in the end there. it was basically for the person who started it, as if i can remember correctly, shes not even 18.

that my friend, is sad.

I'd do the same thing. I'd honestly rather lose a limb than my dick.

Or you could accept the fact that it's their right to with their body as they see fit. And, not everything is done solely for aesthetics.

 It always amazes me that people can have such strong opinions about not wanting other people to have the freedom to do what they want to with their own damn bodies.

apropos of nothing, i used to be scared to death of my mother's kitchen witch when i was a kid... :(

My aunt had one of those creepy f**king things. It frightened me as well. :(

I haven't had any cosmetic work done, but I have had my sinuses completely restructured and I've had LASIK done. The quality of my life has improved a thousand fold because of those two surgeries. I can breath so much better, my allergies aren't as bad and not having to muck with glasses and contacts has been a godsend with my active lifestyle. While the work I've had done resulted in largely functional improvements, I can see how some folks may want to change something they are unhappy with about themselves that they feel prevents them from fully being the person they feel they are deep inside. Yes, some people abuse or get addicted to it, but that seems to happen with damn near anything you can think of in this day and age. And, some people view it as a shortcut and an excuse to be lazy, such as with liposuction cases where they just don't want to exercise or adapt their eating habits to achieve those weight loss goals. I think there's something sad about that, but hey...it's their body, and if they've got the money to do it more power to them.

Jag, always teh wise.

I'm definitely not in favor of lipo for the lazy, but it's not my call to make for them. I know of people who have lost extraordinary amounts of weight and have skin that just hangs. Surgery to repair that doesn't seem out of place to me.

As mentioned, it's not always about being unhappy with your own flaws, but to obtain work in the field you'd like to work in. I've hear casting directors say, "you'd be great if your eyes were just a little 'happier'" and things like that. You can't fault someone for a little tinkering to chase a dream.

People can definitley get carried away with it and I think there are plenty of people that do it for unneccessary reasons, but who am I to judge?

It's my favorite too!

That was a great show in the first two seasons but after it's been falling apart. It's like it's just trying to shock for shocks value. The Carver? Matt a nazi? Scientologists? Rosie? They kinda lost their cool aspect.

yeah I agree. Hopefully moving to LA will bring back their edge and the storylines will get better.

I have nothing add to the actual topic question however I'll add my own thoughts to the matter since most people seem to be doing that. As a guy, it's whole another ball-park, there's no need for plastic surgery, and you could be the ugliest mother ****a and it wouldn't matter, since society sets it up where guys court women, and I believe **** like that has more to do with personality than looks, once the intial contact has been set up. So in other words it truely sucks to a woman, especially to the point where they feel pressured into getting surgery to physically change themselves to meet society standards. Plus there's the added question of why stop at a simple nose job, etc, etc... Though that's no judgement on the thread starter since I believe everyone has different beliefs, etc... So if that makes you happy, then you should go along with it... I'm simply opening up a discussion on what people's views are on the subject... I don't know there just something deeply wrong in altering one's body to me.
