Has anyone here ever had...

It's not about what others think of how I look. It's about how I think I look. I think that half of Hollywood right now needs to fire their image consultants and eat a hamburger, so I definitely don't want to look like them.

I just want to be pretty in my own eyes. That's enough.

That said, if I'm pretty in my own eyes, self-confidence alone would probably cause others to think I am as well, which would definitely help with my as-of-yet-non-existant career.

Just remember, the important thing is your happiness. Beyond that, do whatever you're comfortable with.

Way too young to be thinking about plastic surgery. You haven't finished growing and changing yet.

My advice? Stop watching plastic surgery shows and don't buy fashion magazines and beauty magazines. They're pretty much designed to make you feel bad about yourself.

I do think its a sad world we live in where we have girls that feel so bad about themselves they're willing to go under the knife for their idea of "perfection", and then we have these other people that are all like "you go girl!"

Its been my own personal experience that very few girls feel like they're pretty by their own standards. I really don't think surgery is the answer for most of them.

Other things to think about are the pain of surgery, plus the fact that you have to "maintain" some surgery. Breast implants, for example, have to constantly be maintained, it seems like alot of work. Plus, what are they gonna look and feel like when you're an old woman?

Do you know how you maintain implants?

If that seems like work to you, then....

...well it explains alot.

You have to, like, blow air through the nipples with your mouth for about an hour everyday.

Don't be so condescending, she's most likely thought it out, not to have someone tell her that she should stop feeling sorry for herself. Also think back when girls says they aren't pretty, did they really mean it or were they fishing for a complement?

I think you're confusing this with something else...

... but even if that's true, somebody's gotta do it. Might as well be you.

I think its irrisponsible to get plastic surgery when you're 18 because your body hasn't finished growing and changing. She's 18, and she wants plastic surgery because she wants to be an actress. Honestly, I think there are plenty of plastic surgeons in the UK that would say no to her for those 2 reasons.

And think about it. How many girls do you know that feel like they're pretty? If you really think about it, most girls, even if they're ****ing gorgeous, still feel insecure about how they look in some way. Its partly because of media and how its infected peoples' perseptions. And you have this "if it makes ya feel happy, do it" brigade, which aren't helping the situation.

The real, underlying issue is this. Why are we living in a society where so many young girls are insecure about themselves? Why are girls putting serious consideration into plastic surgery while they are still teenagers?

How many 18 year old guys are unsecure about themselves? Seriously how many whiney threads do we have on the hype about how they don't have a girlfriend. It comes with the territory of being a teenager, however I think it somewhat rude to assume that about someone especially when you don't know them... I'll be back lata I'm off to see Ratatouille with the 'rents... I love a free movie ticket :D

Well, not my intention to be rude. Someone has to tell the truth of the situation. The last thing an 18 year old girl needs is a bunch of sheep going "you go girl, do what makes ya happy, reach for the stars!". This is the real world, and going under the knife is not a decision to be taken lightly. Its for life. Its permenant. Its a very serious decision.

Alexia, life isn't a fashion magazine.

As for guys being insecure about themselves. Yeah, thats true. But not as many men go under the knife. And the vast majority of anorexics are female. There is something in society that ****s with peoples views of themselves, and all the pressure is on females. I just think, the last thing we should be doing is encouraging it by backing up teenage girls that wanna get boob jobs.

So, what she needs is some stranger pissing in her cheerios...

BTW, I'm sure she is more then fit to make an educated decision and 18 years old is old enough to make said decision.

Quit treating her like Dakota.

No, but if I do end up doing what I want to do with my life, I don't want to look at every picture taken of me and think 'I wish my nose were longer/smaller', or 'Ugh, those unavoidable bags under my eyes make me look like a zombie'.

This is about me being happy with myself, not me trying to be Paris Hilton (puke).

EDIT: Well, do what ya like Alexia.

Honestly though, maybe ya oughta turn off the plastic surgery shows, and just think about it for awhile, think about how much this will affect your life.

Little things that are "wrong" with our faces add to our personality, our individuality. I dread to think of a world where plastic surgery is as common as buying a car.
