Right now I'm seeing a ton of hate directed at Fox and Sony productions that we've seen no footage of yet, namely Venom and Fantastic Four. Has anyone here ever hated a movie before it came out then actually saw it and liked it? I'm just asking since some people here are getting incredibly nasty towards productions that they barely know anything about.

Never. It's a pointless excersise in negativity at this stage, there's too little official information to form such a strong judgement

(Batman vs Superman gets a lot of hate too)

Depends who's making it and the history of things involved with the film making. If someone or something disappointed me more then once and is involved again I can display some negativity based on my previous viewings of their work. Not to the point where I won't see something if the trailers, early word or reviews are solid but it has happened a few times I guess.

Early hate on fan properties is fairly normal. Because of grand expectations on characters they know.

Why is Venom getting hate? Feal like people have been waiting on that one for awhile.

Right. And If M Night was directing a reboot people wouldn't exactly be happy.

Because Venom is being made by Sony, because people are assuming that it'll be rated PG-13, because people are worried that Spider-Man won't appear in it at all, because people would rather see Spider-Man fight Carnage, because people feel that venom works better as a villain despite all of his character development in the 90s, etc.

And what has Josh Trank done to let fans down before? Chronicle was far from a flop.

The Venom stuff sounds more like typical concerns. Happens on every film.

I don't think Josh Trank was the initial reason why people are upset at F4. It's a mixture of Fox and their history of the F4, casting that didn't meet many of the fans expectations ,bad rumors, delayed production, late news and the fact many think they are better off at Marvel. Which is were these characters would no doubt have more to interact with.

For me my main worries on F4 comes from the writers and possibly combining it with X-Men. The director and cast are all talented, and I know they are capable of doing good work. I'm holding final judgement, till I see more.

It depends on the case; I lost all faith in the Batman v. Superman project because the studio has been making nothing but bad decisions-excluding the casting of the Trinity-since MoS. As for the F4 reboot, I am willing to give it a chance, because I liked Chronicle. Sure the film has been grossly overhyped, but, it's solid. On the Webb front, I like what has been done with the franchise and eagerly await the expansions.

Yes. X-Men: First Class is a prime example.

However, usually you can earn a lot from the production process. If there is smoke there is usually fire. Films like First Class are more the exception than the rule.

I can understand some negativity. A lot of fans still don't get that everything from the comics doesn't go in the movies, much less why. So any change, for them, is just as bad a sign as casting Terry Crews as Zatanna, or seeing an underwhelming trailer. They take it as a sign that the filmmakers don't care or don't get the character, even if the truth is quite the opposite.

That's compounded on here because some people do see the potential or necessity of certain changes, and that creates something to fight against. The way those realities are presented can escalate things quickly.

As for Venom and Fantastic Four that hate is mostly fueled by the idea that all the Marvel Comics characters "belong" with Marvel Studios and these expansions are indications that Fox and Sony aren't going anywhere. So if Sony and Fox aren't doing that, even if they paid good money for their rights and kick back to Marvel on every level, if Sony and Fox are "in the way" then they are "evil" and everything they do is wrong or corrupt and comes from ill selfish intent. Fox especially because they have a lower ratio of quality movies to their name. If they were "good" people, they would make good movies, goes the "logic."

It's a bit of a mess really. Why do I even post here?

Precisely.

Half of the time it's not really about the movie but that it's being made at the "wrong" studio. Which is just silly.

no one wants their brand destroyed by studios purely after cash grabs.

I'm worried about Batman vs. Superman because Snyder and Goyer failed to give us a fleshed out Superman mythology with a well-rounded supporting cast. We barely know this version of The Daily Planet staff, and have a grim proto-Superman vs a defined Superhero, and now they're going to add at least two more superheroes, Alfred, Lex Luthor, and one other villain?

Yeah, Good luck.

I have not heard anything on the Venom or the Sinister Six project, so I won't say anything about them. Maybe will they be good, or maybe they will be terrible, I don't know. I understand the fear for them, considering Spiderman 3, but, well, they have a chance to be better.

I deeply hated Amazing Spiderman, but the second movie seems really fine. I understand that what was wrong with the first was "the origin". Now free from that, we will see what Sony and co can do really.

For Superman VS Batman, what I fear the most is the number of superheroes add. Batman (with Alfred) And Superman and his supporting cast with Lex Luthor is one thing, but them + Wonder Woman + other heroes maybe, well, it may be too much. But, why not. I have absolutely no idea why they have cast Affleck and Heisenberg. I will look at the trailer with suspition, but why not.

I am really open minded with these project

I have, on the other hand, no doubt that Days of Future Past will be a good movie. Singer, even without Marvel, seems to go on the right direction, and I'm eager to see it on theater, like the next movie with Apocalypse. Yes, I have no problem to see a Fox movie... if it is done right !

But, and it is the "but" : I must be honest, the Fantastic Four reboot looks like a true disaster even before entering in production. Yes, there were some fear with "First class", but not as much. The synopsis that Fox send to casting director for I don't know what kind of reason was pure trash. The casting is really lame, and surprisingly without any A lister. Miles Teller as Mister Fantastic ? What were they thinking ? Nothing feels right with this project. And as for "has Trank let us down before ?" Well, the guy has only done one movie, we should see 3 or 4 movie from him before considering him as the next Kubrick, shouldn't we ?

So for me, the only project tha I am against is this one, because I really don't feel it. So isn't it a little bit caricatural to call me a "hater" ?

Batman 89. I hated everything I was reading back then before its release: Michael Keaton as Batman, Joker having more screen time, too violent, etc etc. Then I saw it and loved it.

If I don't like the people involved and their past work, I can safely say I'm not anticipating the movie even if I haven't seen anything released from it. Much like if you told me you were making a casserole involving an assortment of my least favorite foods I could reasonably infer that I wouldn't like it.
I'm not going to take my negativity out of hand, though, that's the thing. I'm worried about Superman vs Batman but I'm not going to be spewing venom on it left and right talking about how much I think it's going to fail. I've voiced my opinion here and elsewhere that I have my doubts about the movie and the way WB is handling things, but you won't see me shooting it down whenever I get the chance. I hope it's good, I want it to be good, I just don't have the confidence that WB could handle it. Same goes with Fox and this new FF franchise.
And I think that's personally okay to voice in a reasonable, levelheaded manner.

I hate the Fantastic Four on the basis of principle.
The fact that it is happening and all the details that have been released have me foaming at the mouth.
Fox will render the FF unrecognizable and furthermore they're preventing the property from returning to its rightful home.

Fox might make a good movie out of it, but they'll never make a good Fantastic Four movie out of it.
Not only that but the fact that they're intent on infecting cinema with their garbage means that the MCU has to do without a great many characters and storylines that would best fit the world they've created instead of being shoehorned into X-Men continuity in a sad desperation to churn out a Fox Cinematic Universe.

I actually wish some noble nut would go out of his way to sabotage production of this travesty to the point of discouraging filming.

The only case I would never judge someone for hating on a film before the trailer is released is for any movies made by Aaron Seltzer and Jason Friedberg.

Doubts and concerns are fine, that's constructive critism.

When people say rubbish like "this his will flop hard", "this will be a travesty", "this is gonna suck and no one will see it" and other such hyperbole it's just hate.

And I think that's personally okay to voice in a reasonable, levelheaded manner.

Absolutely. Speaking of which...

It's clear that this poster hates it not based on the movie itself because because of studio bias. With that last sentence being a prime example of everything wrong with the community

and furthermore they're preventing the property from returning to its rightful home

If your relative sold your TV and Couch to someone would you demand that the buyer return it to "it's rightful home" or or direct your anger at the actual one to blame, the relative for selling it?

Your analogy is not reflective of what actually happened. Let me try:

Your relative leased (not sold) a precious family heirloom (not a TV or Couch) to someone with the belief that they would treat this gem with the respect it deserved. Unfortunately, the borrower (not buyer) treated this item quite poorly and inflicted severe damage upon it.

But, at long last, the lease is set to expire and this precious family heirloom can take its rightful place of honor in your home. But the borrower, despite showing minimal interest in the precious heirloom, has decided to invoke their right to renew and inflict even greater damage (if that is possible) on what has been a treasure for over half a century.

Now, I am certainly angry that the owner may not be doing everything in their power to extract this precious family heirloom from the abusive borrower. But the borrower bears the brunt of blame in this scenario.

But, at long last, the lease is set to expire and this precious family heirloom can take its rightful place of honor in your home.

Wouldn't have to expire if it wasn't leased away. Marvel started the whole affair by putting the not so previous heirloom up for sale, or lease.

The simple fact is Marvel leased away their properties. The various studios bought them and have the right to use them.

The buyers didn't smash open the window of Marvel HQ, sneak in and steal them but some people act as if they did. The studios are not 'in the wrong' for using what they paid for.

Without Marvel leasing them we not only wouldn't have all of the Marvel movies (including MCU) but Marvel may have gone out of business and we wouldn't have comics either.

If you're a fan of the property you'd be hoping for the best and would not decide to hate it or boycott it before the story, setting and so forth is revealed, it's too early for such a reaction, disliking the cast is fine but such prophecies of doom and hate is unjustified bias.

If we are talking about the X-Men, I agree with you. Though there have been some substantial bumps in the road along with some shaky continuity, FOX has treated the X-Men with respect, hiring (for the most part) top notch directors and actors in order to interpret Marvel's Mightiest Mutants for the big screen. Though I would prefer every Marvel character be under one studio roof, I can't make a compelling argument that they belong anywhere other than where they've been for the past 15 years.

But the FF? Not buying it. FOX announced this reboot in 2009, have put out four X-Men films since they abruptly cancelled their awful Fantastic Four series short of a trilogy, and have presented a cast that bears no resemblance to any incarnation of the team over the past 50 years, including the "What If's". FOX may have the legal right to do what they did, but I don't have to like it.

If you're a fan of the property you'd be hoping for the best and would not decide to hate it or boycott it before the story, setting and so forth is revealed, it's too early for such a reaction, disliking the cast is fine but such prophecies of doom and hate is unjustified.

The casting alone, particularly hiring three male leads of the same age, tells me what I need to know about Trank's vision. The prophecies of doom will be proven accurate next summer. The hate is justified.
