    Happy Independence Day, Guest!

Have 'Mods made non Mods scared to create threads out of fear of them getting locked?

I was waiting for irony to strike and see this thread was locked.

Quoth the Cryptkeeper, "Irony's good for the blood, heh-heh."

One thing Vartha makes abundantly clear is he will not tolerate bootleg stuff on the Hype, thread or post!

Or anything you post, DJ. :p
LOL it's not just bootleg stuff tho.
It's more or less stuff where people tend to get overly defensive over their fave characters, and the like.
There are sections for just about Every film where all that's related can go. NOT in the main Movie threads. Example there's no need for 616 Thor versus 50's Superman in a movie thread

I'd like to know what happened to Survivor. That was always fun to play and made the community much more appealing. You really got to know new people after you played a few times.

i think we had a bunch of games way to fast back to back and people got burned out, hosts included.

i've always wanted to host one but i never have the time. back when it was like 1 game every 6 months or 2 a year, that was a good time. They were far enough apart to not be a nuisance to everyone not playing, but also left enough time in between for people who hosted to think of quality challenges and plan their games better.

People who participated got hurt, sometimes understandably, because 'survivor', 'death match' and all those other games boil down to simple popularity contests.

Actually, Hype Survivor actually required strategy. You needed to be really good at either deceiving or staying under the radar. It wasn't really much of a popularity contests.

I played twice, and though I got eliminated both times (made it past the groups the second time), it was pretty fun.

Maybe I'm getting it mixed up with something else. I never participated in any of those contests, because my fragile ego has a hard time dealing with rejection. :o

deathmatches are pretty much popularity contests

Survivor, like Parker said, is a lot more cerebral. there's challenges, tribes (teams), immunities, vote offs, lies, manipulations, betrayals, etc until there is only 1 left.
people have been banned cuz of survivor events, friendships have been made, ruined, created etc.

they're probably my favorite hype events. i followed the games way before i ever played them.

Revival maybe?

Revival maybe?

i would really like to see a game again perhaps in the fall/winter or early next year. definitely within the next year!

i had aspirations to host at one time, maybe i still have all the challenges and stuff somewhere on my computer. i could always work on it as a side project, maybe even find a co-host.

Survivor was a lot of fun to play. I remember one time when there was 5 of us left(I'm thinking it was me, Matt, ComicChick, Powder-Man and one other person). I was basically done, but I won immunity and it shook everything up. I never looked at it being a popularity game. Sure, you had your friends here and there, but sometimes it really didn't matter in the end. Much like the real life Survivor, you'd do anything to win, even if that meant betraying someone.

edit: It was Kane, Knowsbleed, CC, Matt and myself as the final 5 in that game. We had that Iron Man internet game to play.

Speaking of Revival, I was also thinking of reviving Hype Presidential Election too, but I could never find the main thread to figure out how it all works.

It would be cool to bring that back if I knew how it worked.

was there one? i don't remember that

there was a Survivor Presidential Election challenge once that was pretty intense.

It was CC/Star vs Marx/SuBe vs Powder-Man/Mee and there was over 200 participants. That was a blast. I know Marx/SuBe got super pissed. As the Politicos, I think they thought they could just cake walk through it.

I made an art thread way back when for hype-related art i used to make. most of them come from Survivor games

I don't know if there was. It's possible there isn't. I may just make new rules by scratch and use what I can for inspiration.

I want the Cthulhu thread back dammit, and I'm not afraid of any mod to say it! Bring it back you monsters!

I've chatted with them, but it doesn't look like it's happening anytime soon for whatever reason. Maybe someday it'll return, but who knows right? Thanks for your support.

Man, because it was mocking the religious threads when the religion banhammer came down? Seriously, I actually believe in an organized religion to an extent and I think that's BS it got locked. Oh well, I'll continue to look for a loophole.

I was tempted to create a follow up thread to take place where fans of Lovecraft could discuss the subject, but it would probably be closed or merged with the other Lovecraft thread in the Books/Music section.

It's ridiculous they closed the Cthulhu thread, which was never about religion, but a character invented by an author. I get why 90% of threads get closed (even Dear Hypester), but it was a total knee jerk reaction closing the Cthulhu thread.

It really did become a place for a fans of the mythos to discuss the stories, art etc. Even some of the mods posted in there without problems, maybe I'll message the mod's every day like how Andy Dufresne sent a letter every week to get his library.
