Have 'Mods made non Mods scared to create threads out of fear of them getting locked?

I was tempted to create a follow up thread to take place where fans of Lovecraft could discuss the subject, but it would probably be closed or merged with the other Lovecraft thread in the Books/Music section.

You know funny enough I considered a similar idea, but never moved on it for that reason (and because I created a stupid thread a while back while I was drunk and got accused of trying to be braincrusher.). I figured if I cut out the "appreciation and worship" or at least "worship" part, it'd be ok, but then like you said, it probably would just get merged into the Books section that half the Hype never visits. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.:csad:

But I do hope it comes back some day.

Sometimes when I visit the old thread, there's still plenty of members/guests viewing it. So it still holds some interest.

:yay:

There are some good threads that didn't need to closed, but unfortunately all it takes is a single ignorant poster to get it closed.

Maybe this website isn't the best place to discuss Lovecraft and his creations. But there does seem to be folks discussing Guillermo del Toro's At The Mountains of Madness film in the Misc.Films section.

I want the Cthulhu thread back dammit, and I'm not afraid of any mod to say it! Bring it back you monsters!

It really did become a place for a fans of the mythos to discuss the stories, art etc. Even some of the mods posted in there without problems, maybe I'll message the mod's every day like how Andy Dufresne sent a letter every week to get his library.

It's ridiculous they closed the Cthulhu thread, which was never about religion, but a character invented by an author. I get why 90% of threads get closed (even Dear Hypester), but it was a total knee jerk reaction closing the Cthulhu thread.

I've chatted with them, but it doesn't look like it's happening anytime soon for whatever reason. Maybe someday it'll return, but who knows right? Thanks for your support.

Man, because it was mocking the religious threads when the religion banhammer came down? Seriously, I actually believe in an organized religion to an extent and I think that's BS it got locked. Oh well, I'll continue to look for a loophole.

Chuthlu or whatever his name is a fictional literary character or creature. Thus, the thread belongs in Books and Music thread. We have thread sections for a reason.

There was no reason for it be allowed in Community except to be a troll-job to religious threads. The thread was created in response to another thread..so its fate was tied to fate of that thread. If the OP had more foresight, all that 'rich' history could have been spared in one consistent thread. At least thread wasn't deleted.

But guess what...you can talk about the character...right now...in the Books and Music thread...where a thread for the character exists. Some other topics can't be discussed in a thread at all.

Survivor was a lot of fun to play. I remember one time when there was 5 of us left(I'm thinking it was me, Matt, ComicChick, Powder-Man and one other person). I was basically done, but I won immunity and it shook everything up. I never looked at it being a popularity game. Sure, you had your friends here and there, but sometimes it really didn't matter in the end. Much like the real life Survivor, you'd do anything to win, even if that meant betraying someone.

edit: It was Kane, Knowsbleed, CC, Matt and myself as the final 5 in that game. We had that Iron Man internet game to play.

Good times.

I usually don't make threads because I realise my topic could be covered by a thread that already exists.

If Hype Survivor comes back, we can have all the members who are voted off appear on Late Night Hype with DS and ETM and then the winner can appear.

:o I think it's a great idea.

While the point was trolling the religious threads (and like I mentioned above,, I do have beliefs, but I can also take a joke and am a big fan of Lovecraft), it was more that it got the participation in the Community, where the Books/Music section seems to get a lot less traffic. For me it was all in good fun, and I think it shouldn't have gone the way it did. But I can't disagree that we can start a new one, I just think it being elsewhere, it won't be the same.

Why does it NEED to be in Community...instead of Book of and Music...since ..its a literary character from novels?

Like I said, it doesn't NEED to be, but the community gets a lot more participation and I think discussion/debate/stupidity comes more naturally here then the less frequented Books section. It doesn't need to be, I just felt it was more fun here.

Because the mods are too lazy to move it. Just like they haven't moved this thread to Tech and Support where talk about rules and moderation are supposed to go.

This is still in the community thread because this is a Community specific issue.

My Zombie Porn thread went down in flames. But I do try and create stuff when I think of something.

i wouldn't say lazy.

we're not really talking about tech, or support, but this topic was having a discussion about creating threads to discuss in the community.

I'm 1 for 2 on creating threads I think. One for the NFL draft got locked cause i didn't know one if the mods made it evety year at a certain time. The other was in the Agents of shield forums wondering what people would change, while it was on mid season break. Only got a few pages out of that before it died lol.

Usually if I have something to say there's a thread for it already.

I was kind of puzzled as to why your NFL Draft thread was closed. Up until now it seems, there's was always a thread to discuss the NFL Draft aside from regular NFL news.

Then on the day of the draft, Immortalfire would make a thread to discuss all the picks that were made.

I've made a grand total of 15 threads. Ever. Which is like a bajillion less than DJ. :p A couple horror game threads, some tech threads and a few news threads. That's it. Unlike some people who posted 30+ in their first week or so. *cough*

This place used to be buzzing with new threads, now every time I look I see the same old thread been bumped up. I even had to go to the 2nd page to find the latest thread.

I think I've created less than 10 threads in my entire Hype life. I don't think anyone is afraid to create threads, but most everything has a thread already. Now it seems some people are in competition to create the stupidest threads that have ever existed.

yes :wall:

But braincrusher's threads are so stupid it's hilarious.

In fact, I'll defend the stupid threads some people make. Some of the most entertaining and funny posts come from the stupid threads. I'd say those threads develop funnier and more interesting conversations than some of the usual community threads.

There is a very big difference between comedic and redundant. I'm sure Charl is talking about the redundant ones that could just be in the lounge.
