The DCEU is the only blockbuster franchise I can think of where it has less-than-stellar reception but its fans insist it's some misunderstood, intelligent masterpiece. I've never seen fans of Transfomers and POTC act like they're too smart for the GA/critics.

Don't you think that's a recipe for compromising the actual story?

Not when the ensemble IS the story. People wouldn't watch a Justice League movie for any reason but to see all these superheroes together on screen, kicking ass and being awesome.

If that's what they turn the JL in to I'm outta here. I don't want Civil War type popcorn for the DCEU. DCEU needs to keep pushing their characters.

don't bring in CW. if i wanted to, i can thrash CW just like the critics did to BvS. imo, CW is like pop corn... just fat and cheese...

kids friendly movie most of time can make billions...
BvS is just as popcorn and cheesier because the acting is not as good, and the action doesn't look as real. Yu can have a dark tone and still be popcorn. Everything with the villains and the trinity is pure popcorn cheese in BvS.

Civil War may be popcorn at the end of the day but to me it's good popcorn like a good Mad Max or Star Wars movie.

you are right! you won! pls cheer CW at it's own designated place, shall you?

oh, ya... very few people there... because after spidey is cool, black panther is so cool!!! there is not much left to talk about... well you still can celebrate it as it has made billions. congratulation.

I saw CW twice. Went from enjoying bits and finding it underwhelming on first view to finding it lifeless on second viewing. Such a big step down from CATWS.
BvS on the other hand reveals more and more each viewing and has amazing repeatability. But still nothing compares to MoS.

well, i'm a superman fan... superman has only less than half in BvS, however i like BvS so much more than MoS. Superman definitely has very much less cool action & fighting scenes in BvS than MoS. but it has Clark Kent.. a real Clark Kent..., a very flesh and blood Clark Kent, a very 3-D Clark Kent with all the characters around him written so well and played so good by those actors. i love BvS and call it the best superman movie ever made. :D :p

Seen it 3 times and was part of the production and on set for 4 days. Agreed on CW, it was underwhelming, didn't feel epic at all, and the reason they first started fighting was weak........not to mention Zemo was awful. Rant over.

How can there be "not much left to talk about" when there's better story and motivations to dig into?

If there is more discussion around these parts it's because a lot of people feel passionate about Batman and Superman and Lex Luthor (one of the best villains) and were let down. That's what happens.

Oh btw, you can't have it both ways. YOU called CW fat and cheese popcorn. You can't insult the movie and then say "you can't say nice things about it!". Doesn't work that way.

I can assure you, once this summer winds down and a month has passed since the Ultimate Cut, i won't be visiting this section anymore. I don't like harping about movies i don't care about, even if i'm passionate about the characters. I only keep chiming in because there's still a new version of the film coming out in a couple of months. By August i'll be in the Suicide Squad section.

It's truly fascinating. A small but vocal minority of fandom has taken quite the unfortunate turn.

Loved it on my first viewing. Liked it on my second viewing, but fell asleep for stretches of the first half and started finding many things I disliked/outright hated.

Third viewing (after watching CW) I was embarrassed for WB, the excellent actors who were underutilized, and embarrassed for fellow DC/Batman/Superman fans like myself. I also accept the fact I'm done with Snyder and his offensive take on these two classic icons (he has a very narrow interpretation that seems to take the worst elements of Batman's characterization in The Dark Knight Returns and finds ways to make it even worse. Same nonsensical liberties taken with Superman and Lex Luthor).

The first two viewings were obviously my junkie-like need for anything Batman/Superman related, and wanting it to be good. The third viewing for me was confirmation that I was deluding myself the first two times, and should stop.

The action was sorely lacking compared to CW (IMO) and action is supposed to be Snyder's forte. The batmobile chase in the first half of the movie was boring the first time and became worse on repeated viewings. Batman v Superman was ridiculous in a bad way. Batman saving Martha was pretty good, but tainted by the fact he made Batman once again look incompetent (world's worst detective, world's clumsiest strategist and tactician). Trinity vs Doomsday was very generic and made worse by a stock-looking Doomsday.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, just my 2 cents.

I faced a similar dilemma with The Amazing Spider-Man 2, it's not a fun position to be in.

4 times - the most I've ever seen a movie in theaters. Absolutely love the film.

I know TASM2 was bad, but I still really like it.

I saw the movie 3 times in the theater, each time I liked it less and haven't had the desire to rewatch it since. Only Spider-Man movie I don't own...well, besides The Chinese Web I guess.

I watch scenes here and there.

I watch Gwen's death scene just so I can feel again. Really well done in my opinion.

You know, there are scenes I would like to watch, but I have never put on a movie to skip through it to my favorite parts... I just like to watch from beginning to end, and unfortunately I don't think I could sit through all of TASM2. It suffers from a lot of the same issues this movie does.

And I love Spider-Man, Batman, and Superman to much to really support such high profile representations of the characters that, in my opinion, take them in wrong directions.

This film definitely falls lower and lower for me on every viewing. I give it points for the effort it makes to elevate itself over the typical fair of the genre... but I don't know what to say... it's not a fun watch. Nor does it have anything really deep or interesting to say. So it sorta fails on both levels: it's not a fun popcorn flic, and it doesn't make a compelling statement like an elevated movie should.
In the end, I don't think it really knew what it wanted to be. Or rather, some people thought it should be one thing, and others thought something else. I fear that that's WB's fault, and I hope they can figure it out. You're either the movie-by-numbers (ala Disney) or you're the original artist film with something to say (ala TDK) but trying to be both didn't work here.

I am now on my third viewing and while some things stand out and get more interesting, others just seem stupider and stupider.

The editing of the movie is terrible. The whole crypt dream sequence, not needed. The knightmare sequence, not needed. The chase scene with Batman, where superman intervenes, is stupid. Why on earth would Superman not at least investigate what was going on.

When the senator tells Lex she will not allow the import license, why does Lex not ask why.

How can you not have a conversation about what happened in the senate hearing.

I originally thought this was a 7/10 but the more I watch it, the further it falls.

I've watched it multiple times and every time I see it I notice more glaring errors and more plot holes.

My biggest complaint is the fight made no sense. There was actually no reason for the fight. It wasn't organic. The kidnapping of Clark's mum pretty much negated any positive build up of any organic reason for the conflict. I mean Lex could have just kidnapped his mum at the start of the movie and save us 2hrs +. By the time the two heroes met all Superman had to do was explain himself to Batman. He didn't need to throw him through buildings or push/punch him.

The fact the Synder sat on this finished product for over a year, didn't attempt to rectify it and thought this was a compelling reason for a conflict makes me lose any faith in JL movie or any of his future projects.

So i watched it the first time and i gave it a 5 and i decided to give it another chance, but that time i noticed the glaring plotholes even more and i lowered it to a 4, i really liked Batfleck and Irons as Alfred, Zimmer's score too, but the rest just wasnt doing it for me.

Now a couple days ago i decided to watch the Ultimate Edition, and i was surprised how different the first 2 acts look now, the plot makes sense now, Superman actually gets something to do and he actually saves people after the explosion, and they explain the whole wheelchair bomb thing, why the hell was that cut?

But anyway, i gave the Ultimate Edition a 6, its definitely better than the theatrical cut but i still have many of the same problems (Cringe Luthor, pointless Wonder Woman, just to name a few)

This is a good point now to make since the ultimate edition is out. Please specify from now on if you've watched the theatrical or ultimate edition and how you rate each.

I have watched the ultimate cut now 3 times and the theater cut 2 times. I really liked it the first time. I really did, but the more I watch it the more problems I have with it. It even forced me to go back and watch The Dark Knight. The difference in writing and story telling is immense.

This feels very much like it was developed by a committee of business men. Not an artist.

I've watched the film in theaters 3 times and have watched the UC once. I'm going to try making it my second time today. :):)

Oh and it only gets a bit better every time. It's the small things. Like Bruce screaming as a kid sounds like a muffled screech of a bat.

The little stuff like that is awesome. Finding those things within every viewing.
