Just thought I'd give a shout out to Bob Kane. I'm sure if he were still here he'd be one of the proudest men in the world right now with the success of The Dark Knight.

RIP

We needed a Bob Kane sketch ala B89 on the MCU Suspects Wall...

Don't forget Bill Finger!

Ya I know, I was hoping when they added in the Bob Kane credits for TDK, they would atleast include Finger for once, I guess not though.

I wonder what Kane's wife thought of BB and TDK, we all know she LOVED BF and B&R since she was in both of them, as Gossip Gerty or whatever.

They can't add Finger, because Kane's estate and contracts forbid it.

... please expound...
Short answer: Bob Kane screwed over Bill Finger. I'm not sure of the details, but Kane's estate only allows the use of Batman's name only if (and ONLY) Kane's name is used as creator.

It's pretty common knowledge that Bill Finger was screwed over, which is why Comic-Con passes out the Bill Finger Award for writing (which was actually established by Jerry Robinson) every year, for writers whose work hasn't been widely acknowledged.

Kane is legally the sole creator of Batman. until that's challenged the Kane estate can sue anyone who puts Finger in any credits

If you watch the special feature on the B89 DVD they mention that Kane had a blast at the B89 world premiere and teared up at the fan response to the film. I'm sure he'd be just as proud today but at least he had the chance to feel it when he was alive.

I understand the legal side of it, but I personally think its bs, Finger should have his name rightly said and used when mentioning who created Batman.

Yup. I remember seeing an interview with Bob Kane, not long before he died, saying he regretted not giving Bill Finger a byline.

So is it much the same scenario as Stan Lee and Ditko?

Up the Finger! and respect to Bob Kane.

Pt 2 explains a bit about Finger, but there's more out there.
Basically, Kane signed a contract without Finger. (A much better contract than Siegel & Schuster got.)

Its such a shame Finger will never get the full credit he deserves as the co-creator of Batman.

I'll tell you what's such a shame. Bob never lived to see Batman given true justice on the big screen. He never got to see Batman Begins or The Dark Knight. It's saddening.

it's sadder that, after reading Bill Finger, doesn't get enough cred.

As far as I know Bob Kane actually has next to nothing to do with Batman as we know him beyond the name and the fact that his cowl has bat ears. Otherwise the character was created and developed as we know him by Bill Finger and Bob Kane's army of writers that wrote EVERY issue for him. Check out Batman Authorized for a pretty good recount of Batman's creation.

With all due respect perhaps this is a man you don't understand. A long time ago blah blah blah, blah blah blah, blah blah blah, he was throwing them away. Some men aren't looking for anything logical. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

BIG KUDOS TO BILL FINGER AND JERRY ROBINSON.

Those two men deserve alot fo credit for Batman and Joker.
