The Dark Knight Kevin Smith: TDK is Better Than Watchmen and Star Trek

When Kevin Smith mentioned Sin City as an example of how awesome Watchmen is, he really lost me.

Most of the new guys haven't even heard of Watchmen. Most of them just joined these boards just to talk about how "awesome" TDK was and they think that's all we talk about. :whatever: It's like they're trying to please us or trying to be one of us real fans by just seing the movie and coming on here just to rave about it. Seriously read Watchmen. It's brilliant.

I agree dude. Watchmen, the film, looks great and follows the comic just as in 300. I can't believe people are ripping on this film! It looks amazing! Completely different approach than TDK.

For me that reference just tells me how the comic book is way better than the movie. :csad:

I'm not really expecting much from Watchmen. I know Moore himself has given up on his comic books being adapted into feature films, and there's good reason. From Hell has it's good points but it pales in comparison to the comic, and that in my opinion should have been the easiest to adapt. I know it all depends on who is behind the project, but still. I was disappointed with From Hell and didn't think much at all of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and V For Vendetta. I hope Watchmen surprises me but I don't think straight-out adapting a comic book works in most cases, especially when someone like Moore is behind the source material.

that sin city reference was stated in terms of translation from the comic to movie. he was talking how snyder did an amazing job with the material

wow.. this movie has become an epic. i really cant remember the last time a movie was released that was over 2 1/2 hrs long at that, about a comic book charecter for that matter, where ppl are going back 3-4-5 times to see it again.. thats really something.. and says alot about this movie.hats off to Nolan & Co. I'm at 5 x's myself and although i wouldnt mind seeing it again.. imma let it leave my brain for a few months and watch it 4-5 times on Bluray!!

I'm sorry, but this is just my opinion- Watchmen does NOT look like a MOVIE. It looks like a friggin CARTOON. Are the people in charge of these films completely uncreative. When you take something to the screen, you have to transform it. You have to make it tangible. There was so much CGi in that trailer, my friend turned to me and said: Is this a video game? The costumes were incredibly cheesie! The music was awful - made me wanna slit my wrists. And i'm not a Batman fan, i'm a film fan. When you make a comic book film, you can't just copy and paste. You have to adapt the material for the screen. That is why TDK is genius. That is why Richard Donner's original Superman is genius. This stuff happens on a large scale, and in a real world. Not some cartoony world.

And non-comic book people are seeing this movie. And that's because it's a great film. It isn't just a comic book. IT IS A MOVIE. A GREAT MOVIE. Strip the costumes, the make-up, the action...and it's still an awesome story.

Nolan deserves an Oscar for this film. He took 70 years worth of batman comics and molded an original story. An epic. This story is his. He didn't copy and paste one single comic into a film like the *****es who made sin city, 300, and Watchmen.

Tone it down Harrygucha  I can hear Nolan gasping for breath, he's about to come.

I'm surprised you're not b****ching about the Batpod flip, btw :o

Anyways...Smith is a lucky bastard.
