Hawley's Doctor Doom Film

So what would Doom do in his own film? Would he fight a B-list villlain like Diablo?

If I wrote the script (and nobody has asked me yet :funny:) I'd start with him as an intense, sort of creepy child (think Damien). I'd make both his mother and father a little frightened of him, though they would also clearly love him.

I'd show the aristocracy as complete bastards who treat the people of Latveria horribly. When his mother dies, I'd make it clear that Doom doesn't have the same sadness and vulnerability that we'd expect from a child, but rather an anger that the aristocracy has 'taken her' from him.

I would show him and his father on the run from the aristocracy so that even though Doom isn't a hero, he is a victim of that evil aristocracy. I would make both Doom's father and Boris somewhat sympathetic so that even though Doom wouldn't be a good-guy, some of that sympathy and their love for him would rub off on the audience.

In the second act, we'd see the death of Doom's father, and Doom left in the care of Boris. at the beginning of the third act, I'd show an older Doom in college, but I'd only show that briefly. We'd see the accident and then Doom and Boris in the mountains where he would forge his armor with the help of the monks.

The final 10 minutes would be Doom in full armor completely and mercilesly destroying the aristocracy and taking his thorne. It would be similar to the scene of Vader in Rogue One, but a little more satisfying in my mind because the Aristocracy would have been shown to be such bastards that the audience would be perversely rooting for Doom to slaughter them.

BUT I would only want to do all that after Doom had been introduced and established as the ultimate villain.

You know what? I'm going to watch Chronicle tonight!

I can understand that, Fox aren't to be completely trusted and as the film likely won't reach cinemas anyway might be prudent not to get our hopes up.

I think there's a big chance a lot of the supporting cast will be newly created characters like in Legion. I don't know if there'd be a villain in the usual sense, I don't expect Doom will ever save the day.
It might be more of a tragedy, his decent into becoming a mad dictator. He begins believing Latveria should become more open and democratic, but slowly changes into the very thing he once opposed.

I agree that Hawley is up there with Moore and Gaiman in terms of writing talent. Whether it includes Doom or not, I am going to be all over his future work.

I was watching Tom of Finland last night and there was an incredibly talented actor in it called Pekka Strang who might make a cool Doctor Doom

- he’s kind of unconventional handsome so you can see why when he is scarred it would have an effect on his psyche but he’s not too handsome that he doesn’t look twisted
- he’s European but doesn’t have an accent that feels like a direct rip off of something we’ve heard before
- he’s reasonably unknown so it’s a new canvas for something new

If they wanted someone more A list though Jason Isaacs would be fun. He was perfect in Death of Stalin but I’m not sure if he can do an Eastern/Northern European accent

I forgot that this movie was an idea. What's happening to it now?

Noah Hawley said he's written a script that Fox are happy with, and that he's going to be directing it after Pale Blue Dot.

However there's a big question mark over it, as the Disney deal might cause it to be scrapped.

The deal is the reason I wonder about its future.

Oh well we don’t know til we know. It’s like how every marvel forum has a thread in it saying “Marvel’s first epic fail!!!!!” And people think it’s going to fail til it doesn’t and then they say it was always going to succeed lol

Noah Hawley's 'Doctor Doom' Movie Still in Limbo

With the merger of Disney and 21st Century Fox's entertainment assets on target to close next week, the movie rights to nearly all Marvel Comics characters — including those from the Fantastic Four, held by Fox — will be under one roof.

On the surface, that could augur well for a Doctor Doom script written by Fargo and Legion showrunner Noah Hawley. He announced at Comic-Con in 2017 that he was developing a film about the Fantastic Four villain for 20th Century Fox, and he finished a script in 2018. Now that Fox is officially becoming part of Disney, which also owns Marvel, the IP would all be owned by the same place.

Despite that, Hawley said, the project is not yet close to a green light.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter's Bryn Elise Sandberg at SXSW, Hawley said he met with Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige, who asked him of the script, "Are you still working on it?"

"Should I still be working on it?" Hawley replied. But no concrete answer was forthcoming.

Hawley added he's not certain when, or if, the project might move forward. He joked that Feige wouldn't reveal the "thousand-year plan" for the Marvel Cinematic Universe to him.

Interesting he didn't reveal Feige's answer.

Just in case anyone is wondering, this is what "business as usual" means.

Remember how we heard "Business as usual" when this deal got announced?

Business as usual is corporate PR spin. It basically means the facade of continuing to work until the merger when things get dumped, people get made redundant, new bigwigs come in and start making changes.

Yeesh doesn’t sound good. It sounds like how giraffes have a gestation period of about 400 days. After a while I think you would just be like “get this thing out of me”

Probably because Feige is ignoring him. Or the answer was one he didn't like ;)

Feige was the one who asked Hawley about the script, so I'd doubt he'd ignore him. If anything, I'm happy he reached out to a talent like Noah. Even if Doom doesn't work out perhaps something down the line can happen. That's the type of writer any studio should be glad to have.

What did he ask him?

He asked if him if he was working on it, which shows some interest. Not necessarily in the script as is, but maybe something that could be retooled or completely rewritten down the line. Either way, it would have been easier to say nothing at all if there was zero interest.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if Feige would like to work with Hawley in the future and bring his talent's to the MCU. He may have been tipping his toes in the water to make contact. I get the sense from Hawley that he's expecting Kevin to read the script.

The russos also said they would love to see noahs take on doom. Hopefully they can work something out. Doom should not be a one and done villain.

So the film following a reporter trying to uncover Doom's origin sounds like he was drawing pretty heavily from Books of Doom. Nice.

I hope this movie gets made in some form. 'Books Of Doom' is one of my favorite Doom stories and it would awesome to see that on screen in some form.

John Campea commented that Feige can't get back to him until the deal is completed so not before March 20th..

Books of doom would be great or something similar. Would also allow the ff to have their origin without doom. A different antagonist for them would make a nice change and set the mcu film apart from it's fox counter parts.

I would love books of doom. It’s such a great series

I'd be surprised if it happens and don't really want it to unless it fits. That seems unlikely given that it originated in another organization.

Sci-Fi and drama seem to be more so his specialty than comicbook related fare anyway.

The lines can be blurred but when this is accepted and when it's not is hard to judge.
