    Happy Independence Day, Guest!

Drama HBO's Euphoria

This show started really well, but this whole angle of Nate framing people is wearing out my interest.

Yeah, I don't think he'll get his comeuppance this season. Especially since he's insulated by a number of factors. With another guy confessing to his crime and Maddie outright telling people that he's innocent, he's definitely getting away with abusing her. And Tyler is never going to admit to what Nate did to him because then he could go down for being a sex offender. And Jules can get screwed the same way if she speaks out against him (though I don't totally know if that's how those laws work; she sent him pictures of herself so I'm not sure that she would actually get in legal trouble for that, but maybe). And his dad will probably do whatever he can to protect him/cover up his misdeeds. So the only way Nate will get any comeuppance is if someone else is able to expose him for what he is or if somebody kills him.

Was a second season planned all along? If not, then Nate's storyline could be concluded by the end of this season and next season could be a whole other situation. A character like his can become repetitive if he continues to be a bad guy and a redemptive storyline looks too late at this point.

As for Jules' storyline about sending photos of herself, I believe that was taken from a real life situation (or many) where a teenager was charged with distributing child porn for sending naked photos of themselves (to another teenager) and there was a fight to get the law changed.

Interesting, yeah I figured there was some basis for that plot point it just seems kind of insane, especially if an underage person is sending photos to someone of the same age. And yeah, Nate being an evil schemer could get old after a while but we’ll see how it goes. This is far, this show had been aces.

Well, damn. #Fez

This episode was good but it was confusing as hell. It was like Rue was in her room, depressed and refusing to leave for the whole episode but then suddenly she’s at school playing detective of at Fez’s place. I guess all that happened before her urine strike, but it was unclear. Also, did Jules sleep with that girl for real or did she just imagine it as a result of the drugs?

It was a bit confusing about when things were happening. At first I thought the detective stuff was a fantasy sequence. It was funny as hell though. Rue was working it out (kind of.) She did mention later on in the episode about an event happening earlier, but it was said very quickly.

I think Jules did sleep with that girl (someone on Twitter called her "bootleg Rue") but Jules was fantasising about Rue being there and also Nate being at the club.

Yeah, the detective stuff was at least partially a fantasy but I wasn't sure if she actually was in school eyeing up Nate and talking to Lexi or if that was all on the phone.

Also, I hope we get a Lexi-centric episode but if we do, it looks like it won't be this season. And that's a shame because she's slowly become one of the best characters as the show has gone on. Curious whether she's in love with Rue. I had thought she was just a really reliable friend but that kissing scene an episode or two ago made me wonder.

I know what you mean about Lexi. She did seem at first like she was just there to balance out everyone else's crazy, to show that there was someone sensible there. She still does function that way, but as time has gone on we see there's more to her. I hope she doesn't change too much, and I hope nothing bad happens to her- the "innocent" character, but I would like to know more of her story.

Yeah, I’m curious to know why she has such a protective nature. Is it just because of her parents and her sister (which was explored in this episode), or is there more? We’ve seen how her parents’ relationship and bad choices had shaped her sister but we don’t know for sure if that’s why Lexi is the way she is or if there’s something else at play. It could fit but I hope they dig a little deeper into her and let us know for sure.

I just saw the S1 finale. I thought it would be more dramatic and shocking, with something like Nate getting some retribution for all the ****ty things he has done all season. Something like Fez getting back at him. There was some good emotional stuff, but a lot was left hanging.

Things went a bit different overall than I expected. The whole Nate and Jules thing (I wonder whether that will still go anywhere.) The Jules and Rue thing. I wonder if there will be blowback from things like what Nate did, or Jules lying to police etc. Or if it will just be forgotten and they move on to different storylines.

I don't know where things will go from here. Especially for a character like Nate. Or even for Kat. I hope they can keep up the momentum for next season and interesting things happen to these characters.

That was a lot tamer than I expected. Plot wise, that was probably my least favorite episode but the way it was shot and edited was gorgeous and I'm definitely going to be watching S2.

Jules really got on my nerves by leaving. Like, think of your dad. he seems to be supporting you and a good father and you just ditched him to go be homeless in LA? What?

Yeah, Jules turned into an idiot in this episode. Her dad is a really good, supportive dude and dropping out of high school (apparently) isn't good for anyone. Also, she's known that other girl for what, like a week? Even if you're "in love", that doesn't mean she wants you showing up on her doorstep ready to move in.

I also got tired of the weird musical montages and Rue's mom's neverending voiceover. Like, enough already. It felt like they were just filling time. Meanwhile, Kat and the one nice guy on the show finally get together and they barely spend any time on them. Lexi got some funny lines but we still get little to no insight into her character. We have no idea what happened with Fez and Mouse (I understand cliffhangers but you normally get some indication of what went down and all we got was three guys looking at each other). And the actress who plays Rue's sister's entire role in this show seems to be to stand in hallways, crying.

That said, there was some good stuff here. Nate and Maddie's Bonnie and Clyde relationship saga is as entertaining as it is disturbing. And Nate and his dad fighting and Nate's mental breakdown after was powerful. It's hard to feel sympathy for a sociopath like Nate but there are moments when you do and I almost wonder if he might have been a good person if his dad hadn't instilled his bizarre ideas of pride and ambition in him. I also wonder what was on that CD that Maddie stole. Was that one of Nate's father's sex tapes or was it something else?

All in all, this show has definitely been one of the best surprises for me this year but I do think this was a lackluster finale. It seemed like they were trying to turn the whole "high school dance finale" trope that is so common in teen movies on its head, but I don't think they totally pulled that off because as a whole, it was one of the least interesting episodes.

The finale didn't go as I expected.

So, the music video really makes me think Rue is dead with her father being the only on to see/interact with her.

It looks like they're saving it all for Season 2, so they tried to make it seem like a conclusion for S1, but it ended up feeling safe since they were withholding answers.

I hope Nate and Maddy's relationship isn't just a series of breakups and makeups (and some weird happiness that someone mentioned on the show) but that we see more consequences. Maddy did see Nate's dad's sex tape. So she has an understanding of what Nate's seen in his family, and kind of has an explanation for all the pics on his phone. What that means for Nate, I don't know. We still don't have many answers about him, his sexuality, what he could do to Jules, Rue, Fez etc.

Kat and the nice guy finally got together, but there might be more to it. There is still that mysterious person on the web she was talking to and performing for. That might come into play.

Jules does seem really flaky about her feelings. That's believable, but her impulsive move will likely not turn out well. She might get into some trouble and will probably have to come back.

Still waiting on more about Lexi, definitely. Wonder what's in store for Cassie next.

Loved this season and enjoyed the finale. I continue to be very impressed by how this show is shot in terms of cinematography and editing. It's very unique in that regard, and the filmmaking prowess behind each episode seems to elevate the material -- which could otherwise come off as boring in some instances.

Also, Jules is a prick.

Yeah, the cinematography is fantastic and I agree, it does really elevate scenes that would in some cases just be mundane.

As for Jules, I think she just has no idea what she really wants out of a relationship with anyone. She seems to fall in love (or rather, infatuation) with everyone she makes a deep connection with. That doesn't make her a bad person but it does result in her being s***ty to people at times. Leaving town on a whim is really going to hurt her father and her back-and-forth with Rue is clearly damaging to Rue.

The last 2-3 episodes felt like they were just filling time and as this season has worn on the characters have become stereotyped shells. It felt like the director was more concerned with making music videos and showing off his playlist. It's a shame because Euphoria started off hot.

I think Fez may have unintentionally created another Nate, or at least another kid who may grow up to be a monster.

But yeah, from that ending sequence when Rue took a hit, I thought 'Maybe she's dead.' But then, she only hit one line. Could that really kill her? I don't do the stuff, so I wouldn't know, but maybe instead of stumbling into her own choir, she somehow stumbled into traffic? I dunno. Good season, though. I maintain that this show is a breath of fresh air and definitely something different from a lot of shows, but I don't think it's as good as it thinks it is. That said, will definitely be interested in seeing where things of with Season 2.

Finally got around to watching the finale, and wow like most of you guys have already said it was a lot tamer than I was expecting. Also, it does kind of suck that this finale just ended up being pretty much one big tease for Season 2. I don't mind a good cliffhanger, but when the whole episode is pretty much a cliffhanger than yeah that''s annoying. I hope we get some great payoffs next season, because I want to feel at least somewhat satisfied with where this show is going. Everything about it from the cinematography to the performances is all aces, but I can admit that the writing did start feeling a bit stale towards the end.

Yeah, nothing really happened in the finale. I felt like it was an hour of artistic shots of Rue walking across rooms and sitting at tables, lol.
