He-man Sequel Series (Netflix)

Yeah, yeah, get your star trek out of my star wars, yadda yadda yadda.

I am not a big fan of this choice. Shatner is not exactly a versatile actor.

Sarah Michelle Gellar is out as Teela and Melissa Benoist is taking over.

Love SMG but not sad over this. Her voice didn't suit the character

Honestly, I kind of agree with you. If I had one qualm with this series, it’s that I never felt the kind of voice that she had fit the qualities the character required. Sarah Michelle Gellar has a very “California, slightly valley girl“ kind of voice, and that just doesn’t suit Teela. There’s this inherent high-pitched, snarky, kind of b*tchy sounding quality to the way she speaks that, no matter how much she tries, she just can’t get rid of. It’s why she did such a good job at playing a bad guy in Star Wars Rebels. It’s probably also why people were put off by her character. She just sounded unlikable. Not saying that Sarah is a bad person in real life. That’s just how her voice usually sounds in any role she plays.

Melissa Benoist, on the other hand, has this slightly deeper, very warm and approachable quality to her voice, and I can totally buy her commanding a room, delivering an inspiring speech and leading people into battle. I mean, she played the main character for six seasons of a TV series where her role pretty much required her to do that pretty much all the time. lol

Also, no offense to SMG, but, from what I’ve seen of her work, Melissa is a much better actress and has a whole lot more range.

Not a chance... SMG is much better overall. In saying that, I like Benoist and she should do fine in the role.

Both are good actresses so I’m pretty indifferent to this

It always kind of annoys me when you recast a role like this mid-series. IMHO this is why you should avoid celebrity stunt casting in general.

TMNT dealt with this too when Jason Biggs voiced Leonardo.

They should've gotten like a Kari Wahlgren type for Teela.

For Rebels, it was fine because Gellar only had to commit to like one season and was only in a handful of episodes.

I mean, Jason Biggs got fired, not sure its a good comparison.

I didn't know he was actually fired for the tweets because they didn't say it at the time. I figured it was because he was busy with other projects.

I missed this when it initially came out. Despite Smith teasing a Mer-Man arc in season two, the character will not be appearing. Asked if Kevin Conroy recorded any lines in the Summer of 2022 one of the producers responded:

“He didn’t and it wasn’t for lack of of wanting or lack of desire. It’s just this story didn’t need a Mer-Man moment. This is really a smaller story. It is He-Man, it is Skeletor, it is Hordac, you know, Motherboard, Teela, Evil-Lyn but it’s like, that’s the story.”

A shame both Mer-Man and Conroy's brilliant version of Hordak amounted to nothing more than brief cameos.

Well, the Hordak thing was because they cancelled the show on the cliffhanger.

Kind of a mix of Filmation Hordak and 200x Hordak. He's more of a cyborg and master of technology instead of an intergalactic lich even more powerful than Skeletor.
