I have not worn over-the-ear headphones for many years. However, I am now in need of a pair that cancel noise very well, and that will be comfortable enough to sleep in, if need be.

While the new line of Dr. Dre Beats headphones are fantastically amazing, I would like to avoid spending $300, if possible. I am willing to spend $100+, but would rather stick closer to $100 rather than higher.

I like some of the Skullcandy headphones I've seen, however, I have no clue if these cancel noise well!

Pink and furry  http://www.skullcandy.com/shop/ti-chick-pink.html

Another one...I dunno, not the best reviews, on this one really. http://www.amazon.com/Skullcandy-Ti...2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1279068339&sr=1-2

Has anyone tried the brand Able Planet before? http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Able+Pl...ones/9563956.p?id=1218125331241&skuId=9563956

These get great reviews, but I've never heard of the brand before.

Any recommendations? I'm pretty much walking into my purchase decision blind, because I'm not familiar enough with these type of headphones. Help a woman out!

what about earplugs? seems better to use then headphones

I don't want earplugs, though. I want noise canceling headphones to listen to music with.

It seems to me that any regular pair of over-the-ear headphones should do the trick, since they cover your ear completely and should have a good seal no matter what.

I'm not an audiophile, but I have Sennheiser PX 200s that I LOVE. (I got mine on sale and with an Amazon gift card I won in a raffle so I only had to pay $25. :hehe: )

They're not noise-cancelling but the seal is so good on my ears that it actually dampens noise by A LOT. I take them off and it's like, "OMG, do I really type that loudly? :funny: " My bf wore them once and he couldn't hear me call his name.

But since they're not over-the-ear, it pushes on your ears to seal them and thus I can't wear them for too long. It kinda hurts my head.

I guess that's a roundabout way of saying any old pair of over-the-ear headphones should work. :funny:

What works for me when buying an unfamiliar item is reading Amazon reviews. It's popular enough that you get a lot of feedback, and some of it can be pretty useful.

I usually buy my headphones from here: http://www.turntablelab.com/dj_equipment/71/144/

... sort by "listening + audiophile headphones" and then sort by price... and there you go. The site is run by DJs so you know you're getting good quality equipment. Explanations for each piece of equipment is on the page as well. Some of them even have reviews. Happy shopping.

You'd be making a mistake with Skullcandy's, Pickles. Every single pair I've gotten (direct from Skullcandy.com) has shorted out on me usually within the first few weeks of having them, or one side would completely cut out and be useless.

the site knowsbleed mentioned above is where you should shop at.

My girlfriend is an Audiologist and says the best headphones to get are the earbuds actually they work well and are best for "preserving your hearing".

Neat-o. Thanks so much! Can't wait to go home tonight and start shopping :woot:

Interesting, I'd never guess those are the best for your hearing. I have earbuds for the gym, but they're sooo uncomfortable!

I can't wear them either. They always fall out of my ear.

Supposedly the more expensive, soft ones are more comfortable because they're more formfitting and not made of hard plastic. And definitely dampen noise like wohhhhh. I bought my sister a pair of Shure earbuds and she was sooooo happy that she couldn't hear me talk at her. :funny: I even pre-calibrated them for her by blasting bass through them for like, three days. :funny:

I wear earbuds myself. The ones with the interchangeable, silicone-like ear pieces feel as if they aren't even there sometimes. I use them for the gym and at home. I have a relatively cheap ($30) pair of V-Moda Bass Freqs, http://reviews.cnet.com/headphones/v-moda-bass-freq/4505-7877_7-32098284.html. They simulate higher end earbuds that actually amplify the bass without the price. Sounds is great and reviews are excellent for the price.
