Anybody else notice this ?

I was very surprised to see the old "red lasers" omitted seeing as Singer copied Donner for many things, to be replaced with a near carbon copy of the Smallville heat vision.

I wonder if there will now be some synchronisation betweeen the two ?

i liked that they copyed it. the heat vision on smallville is just so good. i bet that if there would not be a smallvilel tv show the heat on SR would look the same.

well i think it was a mixture of the two..i love the look it had when he was cutting a whole in the earths crust. like a stream of red beam.

Just because the effect was transported into the new millenium, making it better then just two laserbeams shooting from the eyes, doesn't mean there's any tie in with "Smallville".
It'd be if they took characters from the show like Chloe or Lionel. But judging by his love for the old movies Singer won't do that.

It was not meant to be a characterisation tie-in but more of an effect one. We were told there would be tie-ins of a kind and I think this was one of them.

Smallville is a stand alone entity, which I realise but it shares certain things, superman, abilities and WB / DC.

Wasn't that the underwater emphasis though ?

I like Smallville's heat vision effect so i'm glad they're using it in SR.

As for what the link is between SR and Smallville. Isn't the fortress of solitude and Kent farm a bit similar? I think Millar and Gough talked to Singer about using the FOS design with the cyrstals etc.

I saw a couple of pictures of the Kent Farm in the Superman Returns Official Movie Guide, I swear it looks almost exactly like the farm in Smallville.

No, it's a recreation of 78 farm.

Fortress aint quite the same either.

The heat vision in returns is 10 x 10 times better than smallville's .

If the movie and show were related, Lex would recognize his old buddy wouldn't he?

Also Clark's mom wouldn't be so old and kryptonite would work like it's supposed to...

That's not true. On Smallville, Clark has been shot, stabbed, injected and yes, actually DRANK Kryptonite Gatorade.

Kryptonite just aint what it was. :o

hmmm well I forgot about the gatorade. Well they do cause him paralyzing pain like in STM. That's how it's supposed to work right? wrong? half right? Yes I know about the Krypto-freaks.

the first time i watched the movie i thought he was snorting out air when he was burning the shuttle clamps

maybe the color was too faded on our movie screen, but it seemed barely visible even in the second showing (when he saved the city)...maybe it just blends in with the sky? b/c it seemed fine in the water

Weren't the beams red when he used them to burn up the falling debris?

Superman's heat vision were red beams that scorched the air they were moving through, which may have been taken from SMALLVILLE. But in SMALLVILLE, correct me if I'm wrong, isn't his heat vision more transparent, "rolling", and less "straight through the air?" like it was in SUPERMAN RETURNS? I thought it was a nice effect.

I have a question!

I read a while back that Singer had planned this insanely neat effect for Superman's eyes where the iris would swirl around and do really cool **** just before his heat vision engaged. They do something similar, albeit not nearly as elaborate, on Smallville (his eyes glow red). I was re-heeeeely looking forward to seeing that new effect in SR. Was it in the film? Did I miss it? 'Cause I don't remember seeing it. :(

I don't remember it either. It may have been cut along with the other scenes that were supposed to be in the movie.

I like the red lasers better than the new vision, but it's still cool, I thought it was funny they went with that Smallville look, but it's cool, I think they said there'd be something small from the show, they must've meant that.

Actually I'm pretty sure it was a picture of both the red lasers and heat wave effects...up close it was smallvillish....and from far away it was movieish

The heat vision looke like lasers to me though.

The Smallville one really like like Flamthrowers coming from his eyes. Like gas and fire going in circles out of his eyes. SR looked like lasers to me.

I did think we were going to get "red smouldering eyes" too...........as per the toy. I was looking forward to that look.

We did not.

You mean the one that has Supes face engulfed in fire?

Yeah. It never happened did it.

Also, "Solar flare" Superman......was actually Superman flying through fire in a sewer / air conditioning shaft !!

D'oh !

i remember reading here on the forum that there would be a very good shot of the heat vivison. i remember reading that hes eyes would go red and everything. you think that that was cut ou?
