Okay the more I play it, the more I love it. I played again (3rd time) and managed to get Laren to answer my questions. The time after that I left it a while when the bad dude shows up and she had bruises on her face. Man, awesome.

LOL...so Quantic Dream is converting you? I remember you were pretty negaive against them and this game in the beginning based on your dislike of Indigo Prophecy. This game is obviously very similar but ALOT more refined. I love the direction its going in

Yeah I still hate IP, but looking at HR it's clear to see why. HR is going to learn from IP's mistakes and have a better plot, and the fight doesn't have the ugly multicolored circles in the middle for a QTE. I'm still not crazy on a few of the things though. I just wish if I walked towards a police banner, he walk under it automatically, not having to push down on the stick.

I actually miss the multicolored circles. I didnt like the white of HR at first bc there were times it was kinda hard to see what to press. But I think they did that as to not take away from the actions by having such a contrasting visual on screen

Thinking about Indigo Prophecy always makes me sad. So much potential. So good for so long. And then the third act just... happens... and there's nothing I can do to make it stop. :csad:

The first scene was so amazing.

The last scene was so... jesus christ.

Apparently because Cage was afraid if he kept going along the crime-drama-with-supernatural-undertones path, he'd scare away the mainstream audience. So he threw in an action-heavy final act that had the unfortunate side effect of making the entire tone of the story shift gears and utterly implode. Heavy Rain is supposedly, at least in part, his attempt to make up for it by not chickening out on the gritty, noirish crime drama stuff.

I totally agree, the crime drama / mystery part of Indigo Prophecy was what made it good. It could have been great if it didn't all fall apart in the third act, so I'm hoping that Heavy Rain doesn't suffer the same fate. Apparently there's no supernatural elements in HR though, so that's one less thing that can potentially turn against it.

I read that the last 3rd of IP was due in part to it being rushed. They were running out of time in developing which resulted in a rushed ending

I've been meaning to play Indigo Prophecy well before Heavy Rain. I found the cover very interesting and it really drew me to the game.

I think Psi-Ops, while the last half of the game was still decent, suffered from the same thing. It was crazy how realistic the game was with Psi powers, then it kind of fell apart in the later half.

I wish it would have stayed somewhat realistic through out the game.

I just watched Ethan's trailer again. Good God, it still makes me tingly with anticipation. :awesome:

I started to read the GamesRadar review but they had a disclaimer early on saying the review included spoilers. I was interested in their criticisms, since GR and Destructoid gave Heavy Rain the lowest ratings on the Metacritic list.

Wow, that's pretty cool. I didn't know they were even allowed to ship stuff in advance of the release date. I gotta drive my lazy ass out to Gamestop to pick it up on the 23rd. :)

Been pleasantly surprised by the reviews myself. I figured many of the reviews would be much more polarizing, love it or hate it type deal. Might see more of that as more reviews flow in, but it seems the critical community has been pretty open to it thus far.

Now we just have to worry about that damnable commercial community
