Damn!

Del Toro has some of the worst luck I've ever seen for a filmmaker.

I didn't even know they were still trying to do a Hellboy 3.

Ah, thats too bad.
The Hellboy movies are underrated, would have loved to see a third and final one.

Ever heard of Terry Gilliam?

I'm fine with this. GDT is losing my admiration but I hope Shape of Water brings out the best in him again.

At least there is some closure rather than any false hopes.

Really sad news, love the first 2 and feel they are criminally under rated!

What really makes it sting is that Hellboy 2 really planted the seeds for another sequel.

But i dont really understand why this all took so long and what the problem was in the end.
It seemed like everybody involved was ready to do a third one and all, so im really curious for the final reason.

Not surprised. Outside the fanbase, I don't think there's a demand for a third movie. The second one wasn't even a big seller.

Yeah it sucks, but I knew the chances of HB3 getting made were slim.

haha pretty much this.

i do like the two HB movies we got quite a bit.

HB has always been more of a niche character. and especially nowadays, if it's not a connected universe franchise maker, then it's probably not gonna get made.

The second one made 160 million dollars, so the money was no problem i think.
The movies got quite good ratings too, so i dont see what spoke against a third movie.

You had the money, the reviews...what could have made the people in charge say no?

Well at least we STILL have Hellboy 2. Such a great movie lost in possibly the greatest blockbuster summer of the last 25 years. 2008 was such an amazing summer for movies.

The $160M is gross BO. The net to the studio, in this case Universal, is less than half of that amount. And since the reported budget for Hellboy II was $85M, not including promotion, Universal likely had to eat a loss on the film somewhere in the 8 figure range.

$160 million worldwide is pretty bad and the movie cost around $80 million. So yeah no surprise that a big studio isn't giving this another shot.

That's a shame. I actually watched The Golden Army last night and it holds up quite well.

I kinda forgot about these movies. A third entry would have been welcomed though.

not part of a universe ?
