I got the original DVD the day it came out in 2004, I had seen it twice in theatres and loved it so yeah.

I've been thinking about buying that 3-Disc Director's Cut sometime. How much better is that than the original? Is it worth it?

Thanks.

I think it's worth it. It fleshes out the story a bit better IMO.

>^..^<

I don't think the director's cut is that much better than the original theatrical cut. There are some different takes and additional scenes cut into the film, but alot of that footage can be found on the theatrical DVD.

The only real selling point is the special features. The brand new Del toro commentary track, for example. The director's cut is made for those that are interested in filmmaking, not just the Hellboy film. Lots of great content to that end.

i like it alot better, the third disc also has a cast commentary which i loved

Its not much better, but the extra 10 mins do improve the film slightly, i have barely watched the extra's so couldnt comment on them.

I think it's worse actually, one scene is a good addition, the rest is uneccessary and loses th epoint.

Del Toro actually calls it the "extended cut" rather than the directors.

HELLBOY: DIRECTORS CUT

Hellboy: Directors Cut, is an extended version of the comic book film Hellboy. Considering that Hellboy is probably the most intelligent comic book film to date, and one of the greatest also, when we consider Guillermo Del Toro's directing capabilities, the promise a directors cut of this film seems rather an impressive thought.

Hellboy(Ron Perlman), was brought into the world at the end of the second world war, from a hell-like dimension, he was then raised by professor Broom(John Hurt), and became the main force in the Bureau of Paranormal Defence. With the evil forces that brought him into the world surfacing again, he must act to save the planet.

The performances are great, Ron Perlman is a joy to watch on screen, perfectly capturing the character from Mike Mignola's comic book, as always John Hurt shows why he is possibly the greatest actor alive, even with a small role he brings a wonderful presence to the screen.

However with the directors additions to this version, it brings down the overall quality, whilst there are two additional parts that fit in and bring something of value to the movie, the rest of the additions seem like pointless filler, and detracts away from the theme and narrative of this pleasant piece of cinema.

Basically, this version of Hellboy is more of an extended cut than a directors vision, putting all the scenes that were originally cut from the movie due to lack of quality and a sense of incongruity with the rest of the film. Simply put, the theatrical version is the superior film.

I think mainly the extra couple of scenes with Rasputin helped flesh out the character and helped along the plot immensely. The movie seemed to make a lot more sense in the Director's Cut.

No really important scenes were cut, but those that were added a nice chunk of character to the film, I thought.

Oh and yeah, the cast commentary IS hilarious and definitely makes it a worthwhile buy.

Hellboy is probably one of my favorite comic book films out of all that have come out.

I did see a slight difference in the film itself in the directors cut. But it wasn't a huge difference. Although like others say it makes the story a little better.

If you're a fan of the movie I'd recommend buying it, as it does have some nice extras!!
