I just wanted to say how bad I thought these movies were. The first one was a joke of cliched plot and character and the second, while being a lot better, was still lame in the action department (though the visual design was sumptuous) and was depressing. Anyone else have any thoughts?

Well I think completely opposite, for me they are two of the best CBM's out there, even to this day, they have great action, amazing visuals, great acting, great characterisations, they are faithful and most importantly, they have a lot of heart.

I really hope GDT gets to finish out the trilogy, or at least let someone else do it.

I'm split. The first one was awesome, IMO. The second one, OTOH, had an amazing villain, and a lot of great individual pieces, but the actual plot was terrible. You should not be rooting for the guy who wants to commit genocide against your own species by the end of the movie.

Agreed metaphysician! In the end I felt like the bad guys had basically won!

I like the Hellboy movies a lot, especially because of the creatures and the visuals.

The only thing that prevents me from considering the first one as good as the sequel is the Myers guy. To this day, I still don't know why they felt the need to have him in the movie at all.
He was so bland and useless that they got rid of him in the second one and referenced him only once at the beginning. Talk about not leaving an impression.

Wow. Loved both in the theaters, and have loved watching them at home, especially the first. Meyers is one of my favorite characters. He wasn't a throwaway - Rupert Evans was in a stage show and couldn't reprise the role for The Golden Army.

The first Hellboy is in my Top 10 Comic Book Movies.

The second is a bit too silly for it's own good. I still like it though.

Both Hellboy films are some of my favorite films of all time. I'm dying to see a great third installment to make a trilogy of Ron Perlman as Hellboy.

I always watch them or have them as background when they are on TV. I just can't get enough of them! I have no idea why GDT just doesn't make a third already! ;)

They're a couple of my favorite comic book movies....would love to see more made.

That ill child that Perlman donned the make up for should totally have a cameo in a third film.

I loved the 2nd film, but i think the 1st film should have been darker and the visuals should have been more Lovecraftian like the original graphic novel.
