Henry Golding in Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins

Is this film meant to be cannon to the previous two films or is it meant to be stand alone or reboot or whatever else?

I mean, I'm aware of the race swap from the previous films but we did see parts of the origin in the both of them.

I'm just curious. I'll watch this film for sure as I'm simply a big Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow fan. That's honestly the only reason I watched the previous films and really the only saving graces for them as well in my opinion.

It's clearly a standalone reboot since the 2009 had a different origin for Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow.

Not that it matters to me in this case. But wasn't Snake Eyes originally a blonde white guy in the comics? I used to have some of those comics and I will have to look when I get time but I swear I have the issue that tells Snake Eyes military background origin and shows him when he gets disfigured in the face etc.

So..... ummm..... This could have just been a plot for a Scott Adkins generic Ninja film instead of Snake Eyes basically then..... That's disappointing to hear actually.

If the plot from that video is accurate it does sound fairly generic, but that's just a video description. Sometimes movies and execution can elevate generic plots or derivative elements.

I know G.I. Joe is likely no different from other characters we love that have seen different origins or origin changes in the past.

I really liked what they did with both Snake Eyes & Storm Shadows origins in the previous GI Joe Films. Would I liked to have seem more based on the little we got. Absolutely. Those characters were what made me enjoy those films and neither film was great lol.

Also, I know not every film will please everyone, but I still have some of the old G.I. Joe Comics. In fact I believe I still have some with Snake Eyes Origins and first appearance etc. If I'm recalling correctly (I havent read them in YEARS) I seem to recall Snake Eyes being a white blonde headed man as I swear I have the issue where he was injured and had his face disfigured. I need to revisit those comics now that I'm talking about them. With that being a connection I have with the character I was hoping the origin film would include the young snake Eyes and Storm Shadow Ninja training, the betrayal with their master and show Snakes eyes time in the military where his injury occurs before he puts on the mask and etc.

Again, I understand he likely has various origins. There were the cartoons (I cannot recall if they ever went into detail there or not) various comics from originals to in between to the current comic story lines. I'm just relating to what I can recall and its all a bit foggy to be honest.

But, after watching that video it does seem like I'll be disappointed. I'll give it a chance still because as I've said in the past I'm just a big Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow fan. Always have been since I was a kid. While it may not be theater trip worthy; I'll watch it at some point for sure. Perhaps if I read more positive review upon release I'll change my mind and head to the theater.

Yes, in the comics, Snake Eyes was a blond white American dude. He was an outsider or gaijin to the Arashikage clan, but that's been changed for this film. Despite being an outsider and American, Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes' teacher chose Snake Eyes to be the successor as new head of the ninja clan, which Storm Shadow resented.

This is my problem with Discussing Film. They don't often source their info, and they are oftentimes wrong or mis-quoting things.

I like Golding as much as anyone else I guess, but every time I see Iko Uwais in this I can't help but think he should have been the lead. Unleash this man already.
