Henry Golding in Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins

What bugs me the most is that some of the costume designs are annoyingly similar to what was in the previous films. Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow look almost identical to their counterparts in the first 2 films and even Scarlett looks like she’s wearing some of that crappy Wal-Mart Batman armor the whole team wore in Rise of Cobra.

Since this film is a reboot (and it is, since they’re updating Snake Eyes’ origin) then don’t try to do that awkward thing where the movie kinda acts like the old films might be part of the continuity if you want them to be. Those movies were crap. Stop reminding us that they exist.

I like Golding as much as anyone else I guess, but every time I see Iko Uwais in this I can't help but think he should have been the lead. Unleash this man already.
Heck no. Dude is too short and can't carry a film.

Definitely going to bomb.

Well in defense of the film, they probably aren't going on the type of budget the last two movies did. We don't have a lot of big names here. Plus, we're still coming off the pandemic. Even in California, things are only slowly re-opening. I haven't checked what the movie theater situation is. Plus the movie will likely be hitting Paramount+ a short time after its theatrical run. We're still in a weird situation as far as movies are concerned.

That said, from my POV, to get the first actual trailer only a month out from theatrical release is too late IMHO.

Could've sworn I saw a new like shorter TV spot on YouTube that did have some new footage in it. I recall it had Snake Eyes mentioning "The Joes."

This looks cookie cutter AF. And god, I hate it when they take a single line from a song and have it on repeat constantly throughout the trailer. So doesn’t sound good.

The fact that Paramount hired the idiot who directed RIPD to do this is not encouraging, either.

No one wanted a Snake Eyes movie. They only did that because Bumblebee was a hit, but they didn't understand WHY that movie worked. Why not just give us a straight-up GI Joe reboot?

Yep, this looks generic as it gets, just as I feared. And just as Kane has commented in the post above, serious mid 2000's generic action vibes.

And only a 1-second shot of Snake Eyes with his mask on?

Hard pass from me.

Eh, this looks fine to me. It'll be hard-pressed to be worse than the last attempt, and Golding is great, so I'll be there to see it. I'm also amused by the number of people complaining about an origin movie being an origin movie. The dude wasn't BORN scarred, mute and masked...

I think that's just it. Snake Eyes shouldn't have a whole origin movie. He's beloved for exactly those three reasons you listed, so to have a movie with all those missing kind of makes this an odd choice to do a whole movie about other than to make money off the name. Which, I guess, answers the question why they're doing an origin movie.
