Henry Golding in Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins

The fact that Paramount hired the idiot who directed RIPD to do this is not encouraging, either.

No one wanted a Snake Eyes movie. They only did that because Bumblebee was a hit, but they didn't understand WHY that movie worked. Why not just give us a straight-up GI Joe reboot?

You know, the weird thing is that both of those franchises made their first spinoff films about the character that doesn’t talk, lol. I still haven’t seen Bumblebee… does he speak in the movie? Or is it all through the radio again?

He speaks in it…and through the radio

Bumblebee was never mute until Michael Bay, and let's not forget he learned how to talk at the end of that f'n movie!

As for the new trailer, it looked fairly average. I'm not sure why this was going to leave all the other superhero films in the dirt as Henry Golding implied. I don't like all the rap and hip-hop music.

I'm really hoping they don't jettison Snake Eyes' military background and tragic backstory. Those are integral to the character IMO.

That’s because behind the camera is an advertising director telling Golding to say made up things to hype the movie. Other not included here, but included for other films, “You haven’t seen anything like this before” or “I was blown away when I read the script” or “This takes the franchise to a whole new level”.

I’ll wait for the Golding interview 5 years from now when he gets to be genuine to why this didn’t spawn a franchise

It looks nice, hits good spots...but im just not feeling it.
It just feels strangely lost.

I mean are there any plans for future GI Joe movies or so?
I dont know, it lacks this sweet spot where im really into it despite it looking to be a cool action movie.

This is extremely X-men Origins 2.0.

Lets see if there is anything entertaining in it.

Hopefully Snake Eyes checking out his CGI claws in front of a mirror.

I'm not familiar with what goes on in the comics but aren't Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow supposed to be mortal enemies? Why can't we just have a movie where they go at it throughout without all the unnecessary backstory?

It all looks fine and entertaining enough to me.

It doesn't look bad, but it does feel pretty generic. It gives me 'Ninja Assassin' and 'The Wolverine' vibes.

Kinda sorta. It's like a love hate relationship. They served together in the military, then Snake Eyes joined the Arashikage ninja clan. They were basically like brothers. However, the masters of the Arashikage chose Snake Eyes to be new head of the clan over Storm Shadow. Storm Shadow resented Snake Eyes for this.

They're proverbial brothers but they're also rivals.

I think there were also instances where Cobra was manipulating Storm Shadow into fighting Snake Eyes and the Joes and also outright brainwashing Storm Shadow with Dr. Mindbender's technology.

I know he's got to hype up the movie and all, but like why trash other comic book superhero films to do that? Just say, I'm really excited about this one and what it does for the genre.

I mean without the success of comic book and superhero properties in movies and TV over the last 20 years, the GI Joe and Snake Eyes movies wouldn't be getting made.

A Lady Jaye TV series is being developed by Amazon. Other than that we haven't heard anything else. I imagine Paramount/Hasbro are waiting to see how this one performs.
