Henry Golding in Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins

Another trailer RIGHT before release. Jesus Christ, its Slender Man all over again.

Nothing about it looks all that particularly exciting.

Oh well. At least this trailer didn't have the ''I'M ON A NEW LEVEL!'' every two seconds.

Doesn't sound terrible, just about what I expected. Still going to try and check it out this weekend. I'm fine with an entertaining action movie, even if it is a little generic. As long as I know what I'm getting into and have some fun with it.

Sucks to hear about the action sequences basically getting cut to shreds ala MK 2021.

I'll be watching Ted Lasso s2 instead I guess GI Joe along with MK earlier in the year will have to wait another 10 yrs to get franchises started
So frustrating I liked Golding in last Guy Ritchie movie but a talkative snake eyes FU Hollywood

It will forever be inexcusable for a martial arts movie to mess up fight scenes the way these directors do especially since there's a clear template to do it right these days.

I saw it. I thought it was awful. It's the GI Joe equivalent of The Legend of Chun-Li.

Awful script, dialogue, editing fight choreography and direction. This is not how you shoot elite ninjas who are so highly trained their abilities look superhuman.

Direction and writing put this a couple steps above those schlocky action movies you see in your recommendations queue on Netflix and Prime Video. Except there's no wacky Nicholas Cage performance to marvel at like that Jiujitsu film.

To give an example at the film's awful dialogue, at one point another character tells Storm Shadow, "That look in your eye...like a shadow before the storm!"

His name is Tommy Arashikage. His clan's name is Arashikage. Arashikage is literally translated into English as STORM SHADOW. Good god...

Wait until you see how Snake Eyes gets his codename. If you didn't like how Han Solo got his last name...oh boy...

Does it involve dice?

Shooting a movie like this in this way is inexcusable. Also, I think Paul Greengrass was one of the only directors who could shoot action that way and make it look semi-decent. Here, it looks awful.

Even in the more quiet non-action scenes, everything is shot very tight and close. It makes everything feel claustrophobic and miniaturized and small scale.

When the action ramps up, I had no idea what was going on, who was clashing with who, who was slashing who. It was spastic.

Even in Black Widow, when the action ramped and and became faster paced, you could still make out what was going on. That's one of the things I did like about the movie, the action was shot fairly well for the most part. It wasn't indecipherable.

I mean no awareness at all titling the film G.I. Joe Origins when that absolutely screams X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Did financially OK yes, but largely seen as one of the worst films in the X-Men film series.

Hmmm.

Sounds like a certain tweet by a certain lead actor in a certain superperson movie certainly didn’t age well.

This was really my first exposure to Henry Golding, and got to say, not impressed. Handsome dude? Yes. Steely gaze? Yes. Other than that, he didn't impress me at all. And people are raving about this dude saying he can be the next James Bond. I don't see it.

Has anyone seen the movie yet? I have a question I need to ask...

Yes, I saw it.

Yes, I saw it.

He’s pretty good in Crazy Rich Asians and great in The Gentlemen and A Simple Favor. But he needs good material. Not sure if he’s one of those actors who can elevate a bad script.
