He's All That

Yeah TikTok influencer isn't weird. It's an ad platform with endorsers, ad units, etc. SO that's not shocking
However I never heard of him because well I don't use TikTok

As far as remaking it...sure I mean whatever. I was just talking to someone about how weird the original was. IT came up because Rachel Leigh Cook has a horrid rom com on Netflix right now.

Gender swap remake of the Miramax teen comedy based on Pygmalion about a popular teen who bets he can make a loser chick hot.
He's All That - teen comedy about a popular cheerleader who bets she can turn an ugly nerd/loser into a hot guy.
Doesn't sound that bad. Gender swapped remakes can be a fresh take on old stuff, IF they follow the original as close as possible. Both with the plot and the characters. That's the very point when gender-swapping films. That's how it's evident it's a remake of the same story.

If they try to make the film something else, like the female-lead Ghostbusters, it wouldn't be what I call gender-swap. That one was a completely different film, with totally new characters, nothing like the old. The title is what it shares the most with Reitman's classics, the rest not so much.
I watched the second half of it. It was really bad, especially the way some of the leads were written to be hysterical, loud, yelling women. Did the actresses enjoy acting in a forced manner like that?
What a real stinker of a film. It shouldn't even have been greenlighted.

Back to topic. The story has been re-done before, as a part of Not Another Teen Movie. It made fun of the original but it shouldn't be the case here.
It's easy to look at it from a parodic angle if a boy and girl switch place in a "well-known" story. But then it will just lose its emotional impact. It needs to be mainly serious. But hey, it can still be a lighter film. Just because it's a drama doesn't mean it will be dark like Von Trier :)

I thought the original was considered to be "problematic" by today's standards? But I guess it's still okay to objectify a character if it's a man... or maybe they'll actually be commenting on that? But I can also see them just making a shallow "look at that hot guy" movie

I'm trying to think what the male equivalent is to letting down your hair and taking off your glasses.

Maybe it’s putting a comb through your hair...and taking off your glasses?

Or maybe it’s the opposite...the “geek” will have nicely combed hair but when he messes with it a bit, he looks “hot”

Where is the backlash about the gender swapping? Weeeeiird.

Ugh Addison Rae is so cringe. We need less tiers of celebrity.

Also, I see Ms Kourtney Kardashian is making her movie debut. Great.

Yeah, I mean She’s All That wasn’t some masterpiece but it at least looked like a film with some charm.

This. What the hell is this?
