Hocus Pocus

The Sanderson sister characters (young and older) were the highlight.

I missed some of the dark edge that the original film had and felt the new teen characters were a bit bland and unmemorable.

I was expecting Hannah Waddingham's character being revealed as Becca's mother at the end or something.

The mayor was like a less pathetic Jerry from Rick and Morty.

I was scrolling and this thread reminded me I had to finish watching this from Friday night. I made it about and hour before taking a break and just forgetting to restart lol. so far this isn't that good and makes me wonder how after 30 years this is the story they settled on.

Absolutely. I just realized yesterday, how dark and scary the original is at parts. The tension before the witches appear is stronger. In sequel they’re just there like its no big deal (btw why? they faded into light in sunlight)

I saw this last night and thought it was blah. It felt like it didn't really want to be a movie, just a chance to see the sisters again. Which annoyed me, because I found everything else about it far more intriguing, but wasn't really allowed to develop.
That's pretty much how I felt about it too. I was entertained but the whole thing just felt like a way to cash in on the first one's cult status. Not that I was expecting much from it anyway but there were a few elements that worked.

Of course there were elements that didn’t particularly work, but overall, I really enjoyed it. Sarah Jessica Parker was the only one who didn’t seem to bring her A-game.

That doesn't surprise me. She was always the one who seemed most out of touch with the fan following Hocus Pocus has garnered over the years. Kathy was always in touch with the fan base and talking about how it became so loved. Bette has done stage performances as Winnie over the years, and has always called it her favorite role she's ever done.

All of the Disney+ films are just direct-to-DVD releases with a different name. There's no difference between Hocus Pocus 2 and Inspector Gadget 2.

This movie entirely coasts on nostalgia, adding nothing of interest or significance to the larger story. It's basically a regurgitation of the same gags from the first film, but with a more comedic bent and cheaper production values. HP2 wouldn't be out of place on the CW.

That's usually the case with sequels. Case in point Kingsman 2 and the awful prequel.

I couldn't have said it any better, just a lazy movie that didn't need to be made. Disney would have been better off doing a short halloween special or something.

Comedy sequels in particular are notorious for repeating a lot of the same beats from the original film. Case in point, "One Way or Another" being the new "I Put A Spell on You" in Hocus Pocus 2, although they did incorporate the spell into the song in a clever way.

Per Disney:

HOCUS POCUS 2 IS THE #1 FILM PREMIERE ON DISNEY+ DOMESTICALLY TO DATE

The highly anticipated Disney+ Original movie “Hocus Pocus 2” is the #1 film premiere on Disney+ domestically to date, based on hours streamed in the first three days of its release.

I will always appreciate the second Bill & Ted movie for not doing that.

This sequel was genuinely terrible, as Anne Fletcher was content with letting Midler, Najimy and Parker ad lib and riff off each other rather than focus on a good story. And clearly most of the budget went to bringing back the actresses, because the movie looked shockingly cheap otherwise.

No excitement, no surprises, no genuine feel of the Halloween setting. And the new characters were just bland and forgettable— like the three teenage girls. At first I thought Disney did this sequel a disservice by not releasing it in theaters, but considering how cheap it is — the Disney+ platform was the best for it.

Even my gay friends HATED this.

Just watched Hocus Pocus 2 and I loved it! Didn’t expect to like it so much. I actually thought it was funnier than the first movie. Solid sequel overall

Shame it didn’t get a theatrical release because it would surely have been a success

Oh that’s wonderful news! Just keep making them I reckon. If we’re having fun there’s no reason to stop

As long as they dont tone it down more, im semi here for it
