Hollywood rethinking A-List actors?

Another example of people misinterpreting personal opinion for a fact.

300 sold 14 million DVD's,more than either Spider-Man 2,3,Batman Begins or Iron Man.If that's your idea of a disliked movie,i guess you're right.
Im suprised if thats true. Sorry for sounding that way, I didnt mean it as a fact. Honestly I dont hate it, but I dont really like it either. But fact is that ALOT of people hate it.

If the 'A-List' model worked then the Oceans franchise should have been the highest grossing franchise of all time.

A-listers get films greenlight. Disney wouldn't have greenlight Prince of Persia if Jerry Bruckheimer hired some random actor he saw on the street. The studios like to reduce the risk by getting actors people are familiar with, although at the end of the day it's all about the movie. You could have switched Shia and Megan Fox and Transformers would still have made $700 million.

300 broke the fasted/highest selling HD DVD record & I'm not sure but I thought I read that is broke a pre order record too. Not bad for such a highly hated movie.

DarkKnight88: sign me up on the NON-hate on the poll. I saw it 2X in the theatre & was one of the many who got my DVD on pre order.

300 is not THAT well hated. More of a mixed bag, with mostly positive than negative.

Fox helped bring in the people though....mainly the perverts.

Did you take a poll? The same could be said for ANY movie. Judging by how many tickets it sold, I doubt THAT many people hated it.
Alot of movies that make alot of money are hated by alot of people.

I think you're taking me to seriously. Im not saying you're wrong for liking it or saying you've bad taste. Im just saying it wasnt the best example. Unless the guy was talking just about the BO, if so I take back everything.

i understand that this is only for the twilight franchise. but still. 12 millions?

whats next? Megan Fox getting millions because TF makes money? he he he he

nooooooooooooooooooooo
Yeah...i read about the twilight stuff too. I didn't know they would get paid THAT much....they're pretty rich now. Heck, I hate twilight but if they would pay me that much to be in the movie I do whatever they want

But considering that Transformers was a bigger film then twilight box office wise and how much 18-30 year olds (the main demographic for the movie) are crazy for her...I would say she got paid at LEAST 5 million for the role, despite being the terrible actress she is :o

Meh...I thought she was suprisingly charismatic in Jennifer's Body *shrug*

I've been saying this. Stars are not as big box-office magnets as people think. The biggest stars in the world make flops all the time it seems. Even when the movies are one of the best of the decade(The Assassination of Jesse James).

The population has been systematically dumbed down over the decades to the point that they don't know a good film when it slaps them in the face. Remember that the very people flocking to Transformers are also watching American Idol and other trash every night on television. Alfred Hitchcock for instance would not be able to make a box office hit in today's time unless he sold out with a superhero movie or something. The population has been dumbed down so much that a vast majority have short attention spans when it comes to watching movies.

I've always said that it's good acting, not big stars that make or break a picture, I always feel good when a big movie with an A-list star flops but studios never seem to learn.

Iron Man was good because of Robert Downey and the SFX didn't hurt either.

I think that all this goes back to when Sylvester Stallone had his biggest hit with Cliffhanger and was suddenly given a $60 million 3-picture deal with the mediocre Assasins, The Specialist and Daylight.

I think it comes down to the studios thinking the audience are idiots, and therefor releasing stuff tailored to suit those assumptions. Hence films like GI Joe and Transformers.

GI joe was a fun summer movie. you laugh at the movie and enjoy the action.

for christ sake its GI joe.

Seeing as the very conglomerates that own the movie studios also own our media outlets and television networks, I'd say it's not about them thinking we're dumb so much as them engaging in, as I said before, a systematic dumbing down of the population. If they can dumb everyone down enough, it will allow them to make ridiculous profits without putting in any effort with quality control. It also allows them to distract the public in order to get their agenda passed.

This fall, Forbes magazine published an article that listed the most bankable actresses in Hollywood today. None of the big names - like Jolie and Aniston - were on it. I confess, I haven't watched most of Jolie's films despite the praise they got. Wanted could have done just as well without her. I never watched an Aniston film in the theater. She's never been good since Leprechaun.

This is random and not really significant but I actually believe Aniston was on that list of bankable actresses.

Maybe it's because I'm watching too much Mad Men, but I really think that makreting has seriously shifted to stop promoting actors to promoting events. The studios put all their money towards what movie has the biggest budget while it used to promote the stars(30-50s) and had them contracted to make a certain number of pictures so they forced them to make the movie they believed would benefit from their "moneymaker."

I don’t care if A-List actors are in the movies that I watch, but it is that hard to find people that can actually act. Sometimes I feel certain cast members should take more acting lessons. Maybe it’s just bad writing, but a talented actor can make bad dialog sound good. Talent is talent some people have it and some don’t. On top of that many wannabe actors could care less about becoming better performers.

The degradation of acting nowadays is unfortunate. Due to the fact that anyone can be in films. Regardless if he or she is a model, singer, dancer, athlete, or a reality television star. A lot of men and women have no business in the motion picture industry, but if the studios think they can generate revenue for their company it doesn’t matter.

Not on the list for major returns vs. what they were paid. Naomi Watts, Jennifer Connelly, and Meryl Streep made the top of the list of most bankable. God bless them.

It is sort of ominous how we're losing so many greats but don't get enough fresh talent to succeed them. But sometimes it really is just a bad script, or bad directing, or bad editing. Or maybe nobody agrees what's good anymore. I mean, remakes? What's with all the effing remakes?

Look on the bright side at least Micheal Bay loves REMAKES. :o

So, according to you, everyone who likes TF (and movies like that), also watch stupid reality shows. What an incredibly idiotic thing to say. I love TF and I don't watch any of those ridiculous Idol-type crap. I like 24, Dexter and The Tudors, among other things.
