Hottest Hypesters...

Now that's FUNNY!

From the time I've been back posting, it seems like there aren't moments like that anymore, because you can't even get past the point of calling someone an idiot without getting an infraction or probation or banned, even if they're really strong with the ****** force.

One of the more spectacular freak outs that I can remember was JAL, who even would go on about suicide after I'd give him s**t about making dumb arguments and being generally illiterate, and from what I hear he's a somewhat more productive member of society now. We never messed with people unless it was in the spirit of educating or comedy. It's not like we picked on people for their looks or social status, we picked on people that were being stoopid, and more often than not we made them better.

I miss reading JAL's posts. I hope he's still alive somewhere.

Been lurking for DC relaunch and TDKR news mostly. I post a little.

I haven't purchased a comic book in 3+ years, the DC relaunch is tempting me back.

People's skin is really thin these days.

Everything evolves and we've gotta adapt and all that so I guess that means we gotta start being mean too?

If I start being mean and calling people out I'm quite certain I would end up banned. It's easier to just post less frequently :/

Sounds like a challenge! *Calls out ATP*

Sad but true. The other thing we're missing out on not being able to insult people during arguments is that there are no stakes anymore. Everything devolves into a polite "ok, I guess we must agree to disagree good sir, hopefully we didn't argue hard enough to get an infraction." In the old days, arguments got heated, and you had to really bear down and try to win the argument because there were several insults and zingers tied up in the argument that were on the line. The insults from the winner would stand, so there was pride on the line. You also had to balance good arguments with good insults, and be creative about them, otherwise you'd get called out for lame insults, even if you had a good argument. It was a wonderful system.

I'm one of those simple minded people who thinks good guys don't insult each other, and call each other names, but learn to respect the other's opinion. Then I do it so infrequently that I've lost all respect for myself, so yay for me.

Don't be hard on yourself, I think it's a dumb notion that you should automatically respect people's opinions. There are a lot of dumbass opinions floating around out there, and those people should be called out on having dumbass opinions.

I'm fast as all hell to respond with the snarkiest thing I can think of when I disagree. I do and often get quite brash and harsh with people, as someone with not much patience. Yet, the way I look at it, I've never been quite sure what constitutes a truly stupid person or a truly stupid opinion. I consider people to be too complex to judge and categorize so quickly, yet I tend to be as quick as lightning to the draw to do just that.

For instance, in my opinion, Chloe Kardashian is a nasty unlikable ****e, so if I saw someone say they found her hot, chances are I would say something like "My Grandfather loved ****es too. My Grandfather never had any taste in women, even before he went blind." Still, I'd don't know whether or not such a high level of snark is the right way to come across about it.

I know I'm not an oldbie like you guys but I think it's more being cynical than being mean.

Best example I can give you is that way back when if you posted a picture of yourself in the Photo Album Thread and you looked particularly goofy, Duende Verde would just photoshop you in some ridiculous fashion to make it even worse and most people(including the person in the picture) would just laugh. Now, 14 people will just tell you you look ******ed. Not nearly as funny and at least 6x more malicious.

I'd really love to know if he was serious or just playing a part. If there really are people that are extremely sensitive AND potentially dangerous to themselves, they should be as far away from the internet as possible. I actually witnessed a dude kill himself(via webcam) on another messageboard b/c he was getting teased and egged on. It really puts things into perspective as far as teasing goes.

It's usually pretty easy to spot. Look for someone throwing out facts that you can tell are bulls**t, bad grammar is also another tell that can be useful. You just have to use your gut though, really. And the key isn't so much to jump on the first dumb opinion that you spot, but if you observe a deluge of dumb opinions from specific people more than once, then it's time for some calling out.

Good lord.

He was serious, but I knew enough to be able to tell that JAL was just being a drama queen, and being whiny and stupid, he didn't have suicide in him. I don't think he was playing a part though, that's usually easy to spot. He would get so flustered though, it was great, and the more flustered he got, the worse his typing and grammar would get, in hilarious ways. We didn't just make fun of him because he was making mistakes, we'd make fun of the mistakes because they'd look hilarious in context. Which of course, would get him more flustered, resulting in even more hilarious mistakes.

Well, the hype is an inherently silly place, due to it being based on superheros and comic books, as far as I know there haven't been any truly suicidal people here. I wouldn't think there's anyone here that would take themselves seriously enough to do that.

Except maybe Erzengel.

It's one of the many reasons I love the comic book forums the most on this message board. There just isn't anything serious enough within the pages of a comic book to warrant a heated argument involving insults and hurt feelings. The Community is where people abuse the anonymity of the internet and let their inner ***hole out to run wild b/c "what's the worst that could happen?"

Please. I wouldn't kill myself unless I could take most of you with me.

You speak ill of Darkhawk and we're throwing down motherf***er.

Ha, ridiculous. I wonder if the Politics forum is a zoo, it's the place where I'd imagine heated arguments occur hourly.

Other than a benign post here and there, I don't trust myself to really go into the politics forum. Which is sad, because back in the day I would have loved having a politics forum.
