So my friend just moved into his first home with his girlfriend recently and he's invited me over with a group of guys for a housewarming. Things got a little ackward last time I saw him so I want to start things off with a gesture of goodwill :yay:

What sort of things does one expect from a housewarming present wise? He is a 23 year old man and I imagine his girlfriend is similar to that age.

Find something nice like a picture or a clock to hang in their house. Maybe find a nice wall plaque that says something about friendships. These are the things we received and enjoyed from friends when we bought a new house.

Is he a geek? If so, get him a Cylon Toaster!

That oughta immediately get rid of any awkwardness.

Unless, y'know... He's a Cylon.

a nice floral arrangement would also look good.

This thread is a year old and was brought up by someone to solicit bluechopsticks.com

Had to be the voice of reason didnt you Erz

Moved in with his girlfriend?

Easy, alcohol.

It all depends on how much money you want to spend.

A few of the standards I go by:

Two full sets of towels (one set = face cloth, face towel, hand towel, bath towel and bath sheet). Make both the same colour and pick a "nice" colour, baby blue or beige if you're not sure what colours your friends like.

If you know the size of bed they have, a sheet set for the bed, 400+ thread count if you can afford it. Again, "nice" (bland) colours unless you know what colours both people prefer.

If you don't know the size of the bed a Queen or King size comforter (comforters can't be too big)

If it's the "first" home for both of them, a new set of dishes. I usually choose Corelle. Pretty tough and come in some nice (plain) patterns.

Beyond that, I buy what I would want to own. Maybe a Roomba...

Can't go wrong with gift cards!

Yes you can. My in-laws got Gift cards for a restaurant they never go to... from some folks that really should have known better. Then again, my in-laws are REALLY tough to buy for.

Boxing gloves...because soon enough they'll be fighting about damn near every little thing in the house.

Well, if you're really, REALLY, good friends, I also recommend a whip and cushioned hand cuffs... but that's only if you're good friends with both of them.

:atp: :indy:

I like how people are still giving gift advice...a year later.

As per a number a threads these days relating with housing issues I recommend spiders. Lots and lots of spiders, they'll find their way in anyway so give them a head start and a gift certificate for the local pest control, they'll be glad you did.
