Superman Returns How´s your confidence level now?

I know I'm going to LOVE this movie, but I think the general audience will just be "meh" to the whole thing. Idiots who decide that if Superman "isn't throwing down then it ain't worth seeing" confirm my fears. A lot of people think that way. Nobody wants a story, they just want smashy-smashy.

And that's the reason movies such as X3 are made. Sad.

I can't understand, people can go in hoardes to watch X-MEN 3 which from what I have read and heard is an out and out action movie without much space for thought or story, yet they find Superman without conflict, without seriousness, without intellect, this only smacks of double standards and narrow mindedness, the inability to accept something as different and basing opinions on pre-conceived notions. Then they talk of emotional conflicts and darker serious issues, how convenient.

I voted good as well. I really dont have any idea how it will turn out, but Im sure SR will be the #1 film of the June 30th/July 4th weekend with quite possibly a $100 million premire. How it holds up after that is the real question, as it is for any "blockbuster" film anymore.


Box office is way too fickle of a means to judge success of films anymore IMO, DVD has really changed the way people view films, by the end of this year, we are probobly going to see big changes.

Well, i have to look at it from two angles...

As a movie, i do believe it´s going to be amazing.
As a Superman movie, it will suck like no tomorrow, and that is already set in stone, it´s already game over, nothing to see here.
But as a movie, yeah, Singer is a great director

Mine went from "Meh" to "Good" with the international trailer. I'm still worried about the kid, but that's about it at this point. I've been over the flaws in the costume for a long time now, and Luthor looks to be played relatively straight and psychotic (just hows I likes him), so the kid is the only variable that continues to somewhat worry me.

Nevertheless, I can't wait to actually see it on opening night.

With the release of more and more material over the last few months, my confidence level in SR has increased quite a bit. The last couple of trailers have really done a lot to bolster that confidence. But DANG, check out that Ghost Rider Trailer!

I didn´t said anything about pure post-crisis or not, i just said that pre-crisis sucked.
And that´s a fact.

I think i have to make one thing clear here, when i say that the movie should go post-crisis (which i don´t call it that way, but only, the real deal), i´m talking about vision, angle, tone, seriousness....
I´m not saying that the movie should be a literal translation of Byrne´s revamp, because that is already extremely outdated as it is.
You guys talk like i´m a mad or something, but the thing is, Superman For All Season, Birthright, all that is totaly post-crisis (as you like to call it), because to be pre or post crisis as to do with what i meantioned above, vision, angle, tone, seriousness and all that jazz.

Then it comes down to what is, for you, acceptable as the real deal.
IMO, Birthright is a good story, but not a great origin. IMO, a mix between Byrne´s Man of Steel and Superman For All Season is the best way to go.

Yep its a fact that the Donner movie tanked, isnt remembered as great and doesnt influence many films today

By that logic the Superman that returned from Earth 2 in Infinite Crisis wasnt Superman

Superman was still Superman before the Crisis of Infinite Earths and even in Brandon's latest video interiew he says this movie isnt like Lesters looniness of trying to bring to precrisis comics straight onto the screen, its a total departure and alot more serious. He used the words; "It's not camp".....something Singer has already stated, maybe it needs to be reinforced for slow learners.

Not being particularly thrilled with what I've seen of the film so far I voted "Meh". I liked the suit way back with that first picture. Haven't liked it much seeing it in motion. Its looking to be a real big mixed bag frankly. As expected the flying looks great, a real thrill to see. But that can't make the movie. Ultimateman, that avatar is really cool, but when did Superman ever leave his clothes all over the place like that? That kind of stuff bugs me. Oh well, gotta see it to decide. My confidence now? So-so at best, meh.

I didn't have any bad thoughts about the movie, being that Bryan Singer did a good job with the X-Men franchise. But when i basicly SPOILED myself by learning more info about the movie in the spoiler threads- i became GIDDY AS HELL TO SEE THE MOVIE!! Lex Luthor being portrayed in all of his BADASS GLORY! I'm there on June 30th baby!!

Maybe the few things I've read from moviegoers isn't the majority opinon from the public and people are really excited and want to see the film

I've seen X3 twice, and The DaVinci Code twice, and at all the showings, they showed the Superman trailer, and there really wasn't any reaction. I was paying specific attention to see if there would be, and there wasn't. The biggest reaction I saw was for Click, and POTC2. There was some positive reaction from the crowd for Ghost Rider and Nacho Libre.

X3 illustrated that people want to see major action in a film with superheroes fighting supervillains to complement a good story. Superman Returns, while it may have a solid story, is going to lack that superhero/supervillain battle, and that will possibly hurt it with the mainstream audience and at the box office. I'm confident that the film will probably pull a profit, but will it be the biggest film of the year? That I doubt.

I could be wrong, but I think a lot of the mainstream will walk out of the theatre thinking that this is a rehash of the original film, and this view could spread through word of mouth. The mainstream audience who is pumped up from seeing BB, the Spiderman films, and X3, thinking they will get action along those lines will be disappointed when seeing SR, and seeing that Superman never throws down with anyone. IMO, this is a ball that was dropped with today's technology that could have really been impressive on-screen, and may lose a lot of the mainstream audience.

Yep. That's what I am thinking, too. The theatres that I have been watching range from both the Central Michigan area which is a predominant college area, and also the Metro Detroit area, so there is a broad demographic in both areas. The lack of a strong reaction may be a progenitor of things to come. It's hard to say. I'll check out the film because I am a Superman fan. However, there are many things with regard to story approach, casting, etc. that I am not keen on. However, it's important that all the superhero films are supported so that the genre does not dry out.
