My confidence that it'll be a quality movie: SOARING THROUGH THE CLOUDS! :D

my confidence that it'll make a lot of money: I'm torn on this subject, because A) movies are expensive to see nowadays, ergo people might only go to few movies this summer, and B) Pirates of the Caribbean comes out one week later. I think that people are going to go with the pirate movie with the actor whom everybody and their sister knows.

Don't get me wrong. I feel that Superman Returns is going to be fantastic from what I've seen in footage from trailers and video journals and have heard in interviews. And I'm positive that it'll make some good money in the first week, but Johnny Depp is the factor that might "turn the tides" so to speak. If Superman can keep making money during the "competition," then all the more power to it, the crew, and the cast. I know I'm going to see both films.

I'm pretty confident this movie will be really good. The more I've seen, and the more I know about the plot the better my opinion is of it.

Yep its a fact that the Donner movie tanked, isnt remembered as great and doesnt influence many films today

Gimme a break.

By that logic the Superman that returned from Earth 2 in Infinite Crisis wasnt Superman

Superman was still Superman before the Crisis of Infinite Earths and even in Brandon's latest video interiew he says this movie isnt like Lesters looniness of trying to bring to precrisis comics straight onto the screen, its a total departure and alot more serious. He used the words; "It's not camp".....something Singer has already stated, maybe it needs to be reinforced for slow learners.
Kane, dude, nothing against you, but, this is becoming really stupid...really fast.
Next time, i will not write, i´ll draw a sketch.

I never said nothing about Donner´s Superman being a flop, isn´t great (i´m not very found of it, but that´s me) and doesn´t influence comic book movies, so, i can´t possible understand where you came up with that.

I never said that Superman wasn´t Superman before the crisis, but, i have to agree that is totally outdated.
So, i´ll make you a question?
At the begining, Superman didn´t flew, he jumped, so, is it Superman, or just an interpretation?
And no, you can´t have both, because Superman is just one, and you can´t have a Superman that jumps and another that flies.
You can only have one that always flew, and, the best you can have is, one that started his career as Superman by jumping around, and started to fly some time after.
And we all know, by all the origin books written, that jumping Superman was forgotten long time ago.
So, if you say Superman doesn´t jump, and that it was a interpertation of the character, you are totally contradicting yourself.

Lastly, i never said anything about Singer´s movie being camp. To be pre-crisis is more than just camp, and to have a mad cientist / criminal on the run Lex Luthor is to be pre-crisis.

Extremely High.

After watching what X3 was without him, I didn't realize how much vision and storytelling strength he could bring a franchise.

Idiots who decide that if Superman "isn't throwing down then it ain't worth seeing" confirm my fears. A lot of people think that way. Nobody wants a story, they just want smashy-smashy.

Quoted for truth...

...that's why people are somehow praising the "dumbed-down" X3 movie.

Newsflash: Superman flies in Returns. Theres also no evidence so far (based on the novel) that Superman has the precrisis powers of the old comics and the original Donner films (remember vague sequel).

SR takes elements of the modern and the classic...and really; the villians and Pa Kent being dead seem to be the only elements that appear remotely precrisis.

Lois Lane is pretty established in SR, winning her Pulitzer. Superman takes on a much less cheesy....alot deeper characterization with grief and regret, alot deeper than the boyscout that Reeve played.

The look of the film may be classic, but even if they adapted postcrisis characterization fully, it would still look 1930s era classic (Singer wanted a romantic era look to make it seem regal).

If we didnt have people going back to the precrisis and bringing back alot of those concepts to the postcrisis, we wouldnt have got Birthright either...or even the new Superman origins that DC is working on to replace Birthright (thats apparently VERY silverage-inspired).

Maybe you should give the usage of the more classic Lex the benefit of the doubt first. STAS had the business tycoon Luthor, Smallville has the business tycoon Luthor (albeit hes a spoiled brat version).....its not such a bad thing for Returns to attempt something different instead of giving us what we've already seen.

It all lies in the execution of how its done and whether Luthor will actually present himself with an evil sadistical presense, something that Hackman didnt have, but something Spacey is easily capable of and has done before.

I think the film will be good, but I'm still a little worried that it will be underwhelming. The most common complaint I've heard is that it looks an awful lot like the first film. And a Superman film in 2006 should be like Superman II taken to an entirely new level- not simply repeating what worked in the first one.

I really hope there's some big surprises in store, but considering so many have read the novelization, I guess there isn't.

The only thing I am worried about is how the kid is handled.

That can make or break this thing.

Saw the third trailer with X3 - although I have my gripes, I'm still looking forward to it.

One word can sum up my confidence level...

Macrobiot-ICK!

I'm a huge Superman fan and to be honest I could give two fat $hits about how anyone is reacting to trailers. I know they're awesome, only my opinion matters, the crowds will flock to theaters and that's that. I saw STM in the theaters in the 70s and it became my favorite flick of all-time....now I have SR that looks incredible. Every non-fan, every couple dating, every family, every junior/high school kid will go see it....they'll leave entertained and that's it; still, they'll all pay their hard earned money, the studios will collect, another Superman movie will be made and I'll be happy....whether or not they loved it, enjoyed it, hated it, whatever....it'll will gross a ton and another movie will get made.....fans win....done and done. I could careless about all the freakin geektalk on here....buncha queer fanboys that haven't ever touched a titty. Regardless, I'll enjoy the movie and I fully support it and this site....everyone else can kiss my a$$!

Well that is certainly elequant.

Besides the fact that it was ******ed post, let me guess if i got it straight.
So, basically, what you are saying is that you can´t care less what is going on on the screen, as long as you have a guy in blue, with a red cape and S as a logo....oh yeah, and he must fight a bald guy that calls himself Lex Luthor.
Because, when someone say something like "I could careless about all the freakin geektalk on here", is because you have nothing intelligent to say, and so, is the same as to say that you´ll "eat" any crap they throw at you (and i´m speaking in general terms, not this movie per se).
I prefer people that disagree with me, because, at least, they have a mind of their own and are not a tool.

And about the "buncha queer fanboys that haven't ever touched a titty.", why do you address yourself in the plural?
It´s weird

Honestly, Spacey and the cinematography will have me loving this no matter what.

nothing awesome about him insulting us on the board.:down

C'mon, that titty line was funny! You guys sure take this stuff seriously. The guy was supporting the movie, and near as I can tell he was bashing the non-supporters. I'm no fan of Singer, and I'm skeptical about this flick, but I still thought it was funny.

Must be the chronic...;)

Yes, I think Spaceys Lex is going to be completely different than what most people assume from the trailers. This guy is going to be evil. I can't wait to see what the film looks like with the new cinematography. Breaking barriers again.

You guys may find this funny, but I like a lot of what I've seen so far of Superman. Looks good.

I never doubted Spacey´s performance or that Luthor would be evil and not camp. That was never my problem.
