How did X2 avoid getting the shaft by FOX???

X2 did get somewhat of a shaft, but not as much as the other two movies or the 2 FF movies it seems.

Despite this however, i still find X2 to be an AMAZING movie, and 2nd only to Batman Begins as the best CB movie (though Spidey 2 does run it close).

After X-Men they somewhat trusted Singer? Though they still cut out stuff from the production/movie. Budget, Danger Room etc.

EDIT: Damn, I thought post above was the first post in this thread. Nevermind. Carry on.

I wonder if X2 would be so acclaimed by people such as yourself, or by critics, if it had contained Sentinels (or Danger Room, Archangel. Interesting to wonder if critics liked the fact it was not overly sc-fi. Would they have liked it as much if there were giant robots in it?

To be honest, X1 and X2 were rather great, especially the latter, the problem with Fox is not only the annoying producers, but they tend to hire crap directors, however Singer, being a good director, turned out a good film, go figure!

So many people complain about fox doing this and that, and yeah, they do screw things around, but a decent director can make the best and get around it, many directors have had to work around horrible constraints, and did more than fine.

May I ask what draws you to X2? Are you a comicbook fan or fan of sci-fi or superheroes? A fan of Singer? What is your point of reference for the X-movies? I'm interested in how you approached the X-movies.

What did you think X2 did exceptionally well, and where did you think it was less successful, or disappointing? Do you think adding in Sentinels might have made it less good?

X2 is definetly missing a huge ending. The X-Men get to Stryker's base and the only opposition is some soldiers and Deathstrike.

I have always found X1 to be quite mediocre with Pat Stewart and Ian McK to be the best things about them.

Thank you.

I too have always preferred X-Men to X-Men 2. The second was just so flat. After the somewhat cool White House attack (which really wasn't as cool as everybody was making it out to be, yes the teleportation effect was perfect, but the way Nightcrawler moved was all wrong), the climax of the movie consists of the X-Men doing a lot of....wandering.

Well I come from a movie fan standpoint, yes I am a comic book fan, but movies are my passion. I don't mind deviation from source material for the good of a movie.

I found X2 had all it's story lines come together cohesively, and there was a genuine sense of danger. The direction was great, there wasn't just a few money shots, but a general theme, showing the characters in tthis war, bringing in a more personal overtone to the whole affair, through use of close ups and allowing the actors to protray their characters and make them 'real'. The action was nicely handled too, letting us see things without it being over the top or explicit. X3 was let down in comparison because it was a big battle or war, but there was no heart or character behind it, it was moved along etc too quickly.

In terms of writing, the dialogue didn't seem like movie-verse stuff, it was down to earth and real, how you'd expect these people to react, and a few doors and questions opened up through the narrative, whilst answering a few but maintaining depth and mystery.

I think a mention of the sentinel program would have been nice, but there were many shout outs to fans and nice little touches without being over the top at all.

I feel it's a damn solid movie, one of the best comic book movies, the climax is not of a showdown or action, but pure drama, which leaves a bigger impact on me.

Oh i would have preferred if those things were included, i love sci-fi, probably my favourite genre. But, i still the movie tha way it is.

COMPLETELY AGREE with this.

I don't only think cyclops was mistreated but so were Jean, professor xavier and angel

angel was advertised as being somewhat of a big character but infact all he did was play a cameo part, he never even joined the team i believe.

we all know about cyclops

Xavier went from being caring and compassionate to only giving a damn about himself and being unsympathetic to cyclops' bereavement. Not only this but he then went and treated jean badly by putting mental blocks in her when Jason in X2 had no blocks put in him. Varying methods of treatment while he decides there is nothing he can do for one, he does something that would have been helpful to another.

His breach of jean's mind before he died was silly ESPECIALLY when he knew the size of the threat and also that he had specifically told her not to at the beginning of the film during the flashback. He certainly didn't come off as a person who had decades worth of experience helping mutants.

Not only this but bringing back jean to eventually die again so soon, hte heroic tales of wolverine being centre again and storm that was fairly misplaced.

Not to mention rogue of all people actually going through with it and having the cure.

I think x3 strayed a lil too far from its roots to be fair but it's not for me, perhaps it was for other peeps...

i didn't mind the route they went with xavier. i thought it was nice to show that not even he is perfect. and the line "i chose the less of 2 evil" fits in good. only too bad that the movie was short so not all scenes could be properly explained. it would have even been cool if they showed us astro plane where xavier battles dark phoenix and where we see how and why he puts mental blocks.

the more i think about it not one of the xfilms are good. and 2 is just as unfaithful as the other drek-schlepps.
