Basically do we want to see the Jedi continue to look the way the did in the prequel era:

or more like RotJ Luke/Kanan from Rebels:

Personally I prefer the latter. It gives the characters more personality and just looks more heroic/efficient.

I'd like to see some common themes and styles, but I'd like them to be varied and individualised at the same time. Not every Jedi has to look the same, but I'd like to see a good range of looks within them.

I'd prefer they exhibit some of their own personality in their outfit. The PT Jedi Robes made sense given the way the Jedi operated then and their place in society, but in the Empire era them all dressing in an easily identifiable way would be silly. The times of matching uniforms aren't likely to return anytime soon.

They can share a few flourishes, but on the whole they should be unique. Luke definitely needs a hooded robe of some sort, but the colour and style should be something very different to before.

Unique to the characters; but with certain rules:

No ostentatious displays of wealth, and not just fashionable at the expense of utility.

I remeber when the New Jedi Order in the old books suddenly got a face lift thanks to the prequels, where they suddenly relocated from Yavin 4 to Coruscant and the old Jedi Temple and everyone apparently raided the PT Jedi's closets.

They seem less dogmatic when allowed to go for more unique looks, and I think that was one of the biggest differences I saw between the Jedi I liked in the books and the ones in the Prequel stories.

There should be a variety of clothing. Seeing the same getup with the same spectrum of brown was uninteresting. Luke's attire in Jedi would be a good place to jump off of design wise. It's simple, functional, provocative with the all black, and similar enough to Kenobi's garb while being distinct.

I am starting to wonder how many Jedi we'll see in the movie, though.

We'll probably only see one fully trained Jedi in TFA: Luke. And his role in TFA could be a cameo at most. Rae is a force wielder obviously but untrained. And maybe one other of the new characters will also be a force wielder, but also untrained.

We might see more in VIII and IX

Well according to latest rumors:

We may see a few other Jedi from Luke's first attempt at a Jedi Academy. We will see "Rose" (Lupita's character) who may be a Jedi that was with Luke until "Uber" came in and disrupted everything many years before TFA. So we may see some other Jedi and what they are wearing.

They start off with unique looks then somehow return to classic robe by the end of the trilogy.

It could just be a final shot with the new jedi order in robes.

The robes were another attempt by Lucas to take something mundane from the OT and give them some "special significance." Obi Wan wore robes because he lived in a freaking desert (Luke, his aunt/uncle, the Jawas, etc also wore them). Turning them into some kind of official Jedi uniform just made Obi Wan look like an idiot (he's supposed to be hiding out, but continues to wear the recognizable "uniform" of a Jedi for the better part of 20 years, ok).

So no, I hope that the Jedi don't wear robes. There should be a wide variety of looks/clothing. It's more interesting that way.

What about the ghost pic in the OP where all three jedi are wearing robes.

The robe was a uniform long before the prequels.

^ Well, Obi-Wan also kept both his surname and Luke's in place in spite of being in hiding... on a world Anakin was already familiar with... and one that was run by dangerous gangsters and had vicious tribes kidnapping/attacking settlements. With keeping the robes on... His failure was complete. :p

Similar to the Jedi in the PT. They generally all had robes of differing style/shading.

You are missing the point. They didn't become the uniform until the prequels. Even if you use the logic that they are all wearing their robes, Anakin never wore those robes in the prequels. He was leather clad, with dark brown gear.

Which was probably also a rather hamfisted callback to Luke's look in ROTJ.

I've been really curious how Luke will look. It'd be awesome if he was still sporting black but it wouldn't surprise me if he was wearing something similar to old bens robes. Though I don't think that they'll go the uniform route.

Nah, the two had very different outfits. The dark coloring was just to signify Anakin's dark nature.

It was already pointed out in ROTJ all three jedi spirits are wearing similar robes. That's the standard Jedi look and was carried on in the PT.

They should be unique to an extent but similar. (I.E. Obi-Wan's is different to Anakin's which is different to Yoda's. But ultimately the are all wearing robes.)

I dont think they should go back to that look at all. It should have died with the old Jedi order.

It would be cool if they wore individual looks, but with the jedi cloak to bring them all together :cwink:

I agree, there should be something that they all have that resembles that they are together, but they should also all be very unique.
