By the Mark V suit (mid-70s), the armor was indeed controlled by a cybernetic interface in the helmet. The thought-controlled interface used by Tony Stark and Mitchell Gant is more science than fantasy today. Research with SQUIDs is catching up with yesterday's fiction.

as i recall this is correctin the books it was called excuse my spelling, nuromemetic telepresense:ninja:

Actually, the telepresence suit was a remote operated unit. It was essentially just a combat chassis contolled via a remote operator using virtual reality. There was no person inside the suit.

in the books there powerd by both electricity and solar energy

They're also powered by purely sci-fi gizmos, like a "beta particle power supply." Over the years, various IM writers have borrowed heavily from science fiction. Others have tried to keep the technology plausible and practical within the confines of futurist fantasy.

Among the rest of the positively received news that leaked from the weekend is the confirmation that Howard's character will become War Machine in the "Iron Man" sequels. "With War Machine, you've got to remember that after Tony Stark made the new Iron Man suit, James Rhodes put on that suit," the "Hustle & Flow" star said of the comic books. "But it's been programmed to Tony Stark's neuro-net and the frequency by which his brain communicates, which allows him to not have to push buttons but just think things.
But now [once he puts it on], that drives Jim Rhodes crazy.
"Judging from how that audience responded," Howard added with a grin, "we got a pretty good shot of having some War Machine go down."

That's how it gonna work in the movie...

and a spoiler for IM2, for free :oldrazz:

Don't forget the extremis virus that like puts the armor inside of like Tony's armor. It's like the armor is a part of Tony now.

in the movie continuity which is what we're dealing with here the extremis dosen't exist yet:ninja:

The armor is powered by his repulsor technology that he invented which is why there is no jet packs or jet fuel.

Batman Begins taking the idea that all of Batman's gadgets were based on military gear was an invention of the movie and not from the comics.

There's this great book by techno-thriller author Dale Brown named "Act Of War." It does a pretty good job of explaing how Iron Man would work. The character in the book works for the military and he's going after terrorists blowing stuff up here in the US but it's pretty much an Iron Man story except the armor cannot fly. Oh, and in the book the suit recharges in the back of a Hummer that's used as kind of a mobile garage for it.

Here's a link to it on Amazon if you are interested: http://www.amazon.com/Act-War-Dale-...3670363?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1186111527&sr=8-4
