Seeing as comics are a mostly visual medium, the importance of art cannot be stressed. That being said, too many artists talents are wasted working with crappy second-rate writers.
I'd say it's a good 60%. That's why I couldn't get into Tim Sale's related books. His stuff just looks like if Frank Miller and Edward Gorey had gotten together and made a mutant artist.
The Killing Joke is an example of beautiful art by Brian Bolland but I hear that Bolland is late on his work but that's because he takes his time to lavishly do his work which is a shame that he only does sporadic comic book covers.
If DKR and TLH were re-done by Bolland then you would have a masterpiece.
