I've just read ASM 590 and 591. Spider-Man appears aware of the mindwipe. How is this possible? What does he know about it or how much does he remember about his previous life? I've read all the ASM since OMD/BND and this is the first time I can recall Spidey actually acknowledging that the mind-wipe exists and he is aware of how it works. How does Spidey even know how it works? (Psychic Block).

If once you see Spidey's face, you instantly remember everything - won't they remember his past life and things like Mary Jane also? Does he remember? Or is the alternate timeline created by Mephisto separate from the mind-wipe?

Mephisto didn't cause the mindwhipe.
Everything in his previous life was the same or nearly the same, so he was still with MJ. Its not like Peter doesn't remember what happened in his life before OMD.

So what caused the mindwipe? How is spidey aware of it or how it works? Of course Peter doesn't remember the events prior to OMD. Could you imagine being married and fully aware of it and knowing that you were with the love of your life and you made a choice to end it. The whole condition with Mephisto is that they don't know about the past. There would be no way for Peter to live with it and move on everyday. That's the whole point of cleaning the slate.

Peter, as well as everybody else involved, remembers their life as it was presented in the comics with the sole exception that Peter & MJ were just a couple, but not a married one.

As indicated in some issues since BND, Peter clearly remembers stuff from his past, like his meeting with Vermin in the Death of Kraven storyline...

There was no "cleaning the slate"... continuity is still intact... they were just never married... obviously at some point after Black in Black, while everybody still remembered his identity, Peter did something with the aid of an as of yet unknown ally to make everybody forget... as it's been indicated in the comics thus far.
