I've recently gotten back into some small video editing, and occasionally I'll use small parts of movies I have on DVDs, so I'll rip the movie to my HD. All well and good, it's just that the process is so long. The ripping itself is quick, but the encoding and copyright crap takes forever.

How long does it take you guys?
What software do you recommend (to keep at a reasonably high HQ)?
What's your process... is it very involved, or can I set it and forget it?
What color underwear are you wearing?

If you could help me with my questions, I'd be eternally grateful, or until I forget you helped me (which is likely within the hour). Also, if you have any sugesstions for freeware that would be good with editing and the like, please post. I often split the voice track and lay down tracks I've created in parts of movies, and the like... just curious. Thanks.

I love you.

I don't do much DVD ripping but my bro hooked me up with a program that has since become very rare apparently, maybe not, since it's been pulled from the internet, it's called DVD Shrink or something, it shrinks the DVD I think down to fit on to other stuff, I believe, I haven't used it at all since I don't do much DVD ripping but tommorrow I'll go on my other comp and send it to you via aim if you'd like kipobe.

MC: I've used the same software and a similar tutorial before, and unfortunately the time is still a headache. Thanks though.

Movies: Yeah, sounds great. Any idea of the length of time?

Elijya: eh...?

Can't really say because I haven't used it, I don't like to pirate movies except in certain situations like movies in limited runs, but yeah I'll send it to you whenever, I just added you to my BL, because I'm going attempt to watch Gone With the Wind, and sacrifice 4 hours of my life so after that if you're on I'll send it to you...

Usually takes anywhere from 1.5-3 hours to rip a DVD on my PowerMac depending on whether I'm excising all the menus, special features and languages besides English or not. Less if I cut the resolution quality back.

10 mins to my hard drive from dvd, about 10 mins back to a cd

I use a program called DVD Magic. I got it from the value bin at Circuit City for about $10 about 3 years ago. Very easy to use and it usually takes the length of the movie to burn the entire DVD to my hard drive for editing.

I have another program called DVDx 2.1 that I use when I don't feel like burning the whole movie and just want select clips. It's my prefered program.

Also depends on the speed of your drive.
