My task, to buy a gift for a 5 year old girl that I barely know.
One of my son's classmates, and he's been invited to her Birthday party
I don't want to spend too little and look cheap, nor do I want to spend too much and appear uppity.

So, what is the recommended amount to spend on a Birthday gift for a 5 year old girl, and what gifts would you recommend?

If your son is anything like you I would buy her a whistle and some pepper spray :D

*lol* he's only 5... I've got another 7 years before I have to get his girlfriends that kind of gift.

If it was me and my son wanted to start going to big fancy parties and buying gifts for the ladies to win their affections, I would tell him to go get a job.

When he starts going for the ladies affections, trust me I'll do that. Heck, once he's old enough to go out by himself I'll probably do that. In the meanwhile,
I'll enjoy all the fancy parties I can find... especially if I get to tickle some fancies ;) Do you have some fantasies that need tickling?

As a matter of fact, I am very ticklish...especially in the fancy parts.

The $10 - $15 dollar range should be good enough.

$15
its not too much and not too little

I'd say around $10-20 max. If it was a boy I'd say get him a transformer, with the movie coming out. A girl though, no clue.

This isn't the 1930's anymore Lee. I say $20 will get you a piece of crap that will hold up till you leave.

I would say $15 is the right amount. It's not like you know this girl personally.

It's a kid's party though, don't need to spend that much, especially since her kid will probably get invited to more as the year progresses. If it was a relative I'd say more. Hell, the only gift I remember getting from around that age from parties with school friends was a Super Power's Green Lantern figure and that was only because it was the last hero I needed of the Super Powers. That couldn't have cost more than $5-6. Kids will be happy with any present, I've gotten nephews one or two action figures before and they were more excited about that than the $50 gifts other people got them.

That's because action figures always HAVE and always WILL kick the almighty ass

2 Words: Dollar Store
get her a gift certificate for the dollar store.

I think you should think in terms of how much and in terms of what. I'm sure you can get her a toy that's under $15 that's pretty nice. Although, I'd probably just give a $25 gift card.

Get the girl something with Miley Cyrus or Selena Gomez on it.

I would spend about $10 personally, and probably go for Dora the Explorer.

Don't spend more than you would on a DVD.

You kids are spoiled today.
