decided to take a poll on this question. being 21 and have'nt worked yet, really makes me abit nervous that im not going to qualify for any jobs later on in my life. school was always a big focus for me, but I've seen people go to school and have a job. and i think to myself why can't i do that?! i guess i did'nt want to take any chances on failing any classes and it really made me nervous alot.

so i wanted toask you guys on the hype this question.

I started working construction when I was 15, the pay is awesome but its sooooo tiring. I used to work after school but it got to be too much, now that I'm in college I'm working more

I think I was actually about 11 when I got my first job. I was the extra pair of eyes on a market stall. I pretty much got paid to keep the stall tidy, watch out for theives and mind the stock if Aunt Eve had to go get a drink/etc. I'm pretty sure she sold second-hand leather jackets and off the back of the truck jeans.

GAH!
GET A FREAKING JOB!
It'll blow your mind to see how easy it is and how you've been obsessively anxious about this for years for NO reason.
GET A FREAKING JOB!

You said your grades sucked anyway, so we know it isn't a job that's doing that, it's you.

Go out and face the world. Stop being "A Bit Nervous".
The worst that can happen is that you hate it and either quit or get fired. Neither of those would kill you. I know people who have quit and been fired from many, many jobs, and then grew up and now have great jobs.

GAH, GET A FREAKING JOB!

It's like me, afraid to go to the dentist when I needed a root canal.
So I sat in suicidal agony for what seemed like a thousand years.

I finally grew a pair, went to the dentist, it didn't hurt at ALL and was over in an hour or so. ALL.THAT.AGONY.FOR.NOTHING!

Got my first job at 14 working in a hardware store. I'm 21 and I have never been out of work. I currently make pizza for a very successful pizza place and go to community college full time.

I was 19 and had the job for only a day. It sucked and took a lot out of me. I did get paid $8.00 an hour, which is more than the medium range of $5.15 :-)huh: or 5.25) here in North Carolina.

I may get a part-time job on the weekends from 7:30am-5:30pm at some warehouse in the next city over. It pays 7.25 an hour. I think...I just put stuff in ABC order on the shelfs. I can't remember.

first part time job when 16, started my career officialy a couple of months before my eighteenth.

technically, my first job was when i was l ike 14, but it was volunteer work, and i used the hours for school.

my first paying job, i was 18 and i still work there. i'm 21 now. it's civil service, i make 8.98 an hour and they work with my school schedule so it's a definite plus.

and the other great thing, when i call in sick, i can still get paid.

Actually, you can work from 12, they just limit the hours. However, if you are employed by a direct family member there is no limit or legal protection and no minimum wage until the age of 16. I used this to my advantage.

I was 18 I think. Working at Party City during Halloween sucks ass.

Well, apart from the indentured slavery my father put my brother and I through as kids, I got my first job for "The Man" when I was 14. It was for a new Arby's in the town I was living in. They hired a bunch of kids to get the place started (hell, I helped finish construction on the damn building) in the summer and then when school started they began finding lame reasons to get rid of all the Jr. High and High School kids and replaced us with deadbeats and college kids. The reason I got "let go"? They said I didn't rinse out my towel often enough when wiping down tables. It was a laughable excuse because I'm a cleanliness freak and not only rinsed out my towel after every use, I'd exchange it for a brand new one every couple of hours.

I was about 18....she was 17, and didn't have any experience with oral, and neither did I. I thought she was going to bite it, but....oh, you're talking about actual career jobs. :o

That joke is older than Moses.

lol.

A week shy of turning 15 when I got my first job.

Working for a restaraunt. Which was ok. Atleast I was able to start buying my own comics without having to ask.

Jesus, you people start working pretty early. I was 19 when I started working for a PR firm but I don't think it was a job-job since I got paid like once every two months and even then it wasn't a lot of money. I mostly did it for the experience.
My first job-job came when I was 20 and I had a desk and everything, got paid every month. It was cool and easy to do (press monitoring), but boring as hell.

We all didn't have moms and pops paying for our every whim.:o

Great start to 2007

Anyways I got my first job when I was 17. Worked for a landscaping company. Got fired 2 weeks later, because I couldn't work 60-hour weeks and maintain good grades in school. (Idiots...)

Turned 18 three months later, got hired at the new Dunham's Sports store a month after. Been working there ever since
