Sequels How on earth did this get greenlit?

I also think this is a dumb idea.

Magneto isn't interesting enough to have his own film.

I think Storm, Phoenix, Gambit, or Cyclops spin-offs would have been better.

I totally agree with the thread maker.

Oh ya cause storm could really carry a movie by herself:whatever: of course Halle Berry would do it cause that just means more screen time for her.

What would the plots for their movies involve?

thank you and agreed

the storm movie got canned after being in development for 3 minutes.

cyclops? NO.

phoenix? X3.

gambit? NOT without some x-men around him.

magneto? DEFINITELY but the title is a bit questionable since this movie is as much about Xavier as it is about Magneto.

WRONG! Halle said she didn't want to do a Storm spin-off.

Probably because she would have to share the screen with someone:woot:

That makes no sense at all. If she didn't want to share any screentime, then she would want a solo film. But, as I said, she DIDN'T want a solo movie. So your argument crumbles into dust.

Halle only ever wanted the character to be more meaningful and more like the comics, because fans (yes, people on here) kept asking for that. Angela Bassett turned down the Storm role because she said it was too weak and not meaningful enough. People on here wanted a better depiction of Storm, as well as other characters, so Halle was only reacting to those things.

If the balance wasn't right, then blame the writers who wrote the dialogue and the scenes.

Halle only wanted her character to have more depth and meaning, and she was right to want that.

Taking out your bitterness on the actress is very petty and stupid.

What bitterness? I merely find the fact that she was willing to walk away from the movie just because she wanted a bigger "role" to be a little ridiculous. And look what happened as a result to make room for her Cyclops gets killed off screen after 5 mins. of screen time. Im sure James Marsden would have loved a bigger role as well.

cyclops needed to die to solidify jean's insanity.

That's total rubbish. Find me the proof that Cyclops was killed off just to give more room to Storm. So THAT is what this is all about - people directly blame Halle for Cyclops' death. That is pathetic. So Halle walked in and said: 'Scuse me, but you have to kill off Cyclops or i will not be in this movie.' Rubbish, rubbish, rubbish. That is just so many different shades of crap.

All she wanted was for the character to have more substance and depth because fans, including people on HERE, wanted it. That doesn't mean MORE screentime but for her time on screen to be more meaningful.

Marsden might have wanted a bigger role, so much so that he went off to appear in Superman Returns. That was how desperate he was for a bigger role in X3.

Marsden, Paquin and Romijn all had other commitments well before X3 started production, so their roles had to be limited because it wasn't known how long they'd be available for.

She said she didn't want to do a spin-off because she believes the X-Men films should be TEAM films, and she's interested in that dynamic.

I doubt Halle's increased screen time was why they killed Cyclops. I think his death was already scripted before Halle even signed on.

Actually the rumor that he left x3 for superman and thats what got him a smaller role is completely false.

I never said that was the case. I said his moving on to SR showed he wasn't THAT attached to X-Men. It certainly didn't help that he moved on to another project that was filming at the same time.

It's been said that studio bosses wanted Cyclops to have died between X2 and X3 and not to be in the movie at all. It's also been said that the writers of X3 fought to get Cyclops into the film and compromised with the studio by killing him off.

Either way, none of that is to do with Halle Berry which was what you were falsely claiming originally.

I'm pretty sure Angela Bassett said in an interview that she was never offered the role of Storm..

Reports vary, but I doubt Bassett would do it unless the character was more fleshed-out.

Magneto is by far my favorite Villain, and I think this 'idea' is a great one.

He isn't an X-Man, but I ask you this, what/where would the X-Men be without Magneto?

I don't think it's a bad idea at all. Why, the epic story of a holocaust survivor and his superpowers. Though maybe a simpler name is in order. You don't need to work X-men into it.

I think the movie would have the same cameos and run-ins with other Marvel mutants that Wolverine has though. And by doing it a period piece (at least for some of the film) they could potentially do some really interesting things with that, depending on which character properties Fox could aquire.

I don't think Magneto on his own could be a blockbuster draw. Throw in a few popular mutants, even only as cameos, and now you have a movie that can be good AND make some cash.

Also, I would really hope that they have Ian McCallum back, at least in some capacity. If Magneto is shown in his teens or early adulthood, this won't be possible, but they could have him be present for other parts.

I respectfully disagree. I think that Gambit could carry his own movie. He has an entire double life outside of the X-men. He also has a really interesting origin story.

I think the main reason is pretty obvious why it was green lit. I mean you have a trilogy, you can either make a future trilogy or go back as prequel. But because a prequel would exisit in telling the characters origin, you would need to pick on key points. That being

Wolverines origin, explaining how he became that character.
Magneto is basically the villian of all three, but we dont really learn his true motivation for why he did this so his origin story would include that, and also include the origin of xavier
First Class, is really The Origin Of The X-Men... continuing on from Magneto...

Thus creating the Prequel Trilogy.

This then expands the marvel universe more so we can then tell X-Men 4 with a much more expanded universe without having to tell the story of say, Sinister, Gambit... etc these characters will and already have been made present so if they reappear it would make sense.

I don't agree with turning famous villains into stars if you know what I mean. Actually, not every character needs a spin-off!

Now I'm waiting for Spider-Man Origins: J. Jonah Jameson!

I mean I rented Elektra this week and there was more back story and boring crap than action. I dont' know, it just was a long drawn out movie with a few fight scenes in my opinion.

I'm 50/50 on that movie. I mean, the villains were horrible and the action was bleak, and yes, they hacked up Elektra in both this and Daredevil, but I have both of the director cuts in my collection and can't seem to part with this one. For some strange reason I seem to enjoy it from time to time, although it's a very large gap inbetween each time. The Daredevil Directors cut however, IMHO was superior, I thoroughly enjoyed that one as it gets far more rotations.
