Sequels How on earth did this get greenlit?

Magneto and Xavier have their roles, but i don't think people would want to see a re-hash of their story. It was already explained in the first X-Men movie. This movie will be a disaster.

I'm looking most forward to the Wolverine spin-off. I can't see a huge revenue for this one. :(

ya i agree, i know the x movies were basically wolverines movies but wolverine just seems more exiting, not that i dont like Mags, but i really dont think it is gonna be a big hit and that its gonna be that exiting IMO

My thinking, exactly!

As much as I don't like Wolverine, you know that his film will have a big weekend, etc. etc. However, not as much as an X4, but that's another discussion.

I just don't see a Magneto film doing well. It could be the best X movie, buts in the eyes of the fans. General audiences really enjoyed X3, despite critical reaction on these boards and Fox knows that. That's why I don't understand what direction they are taking this.

Could be interesting, but blockbuster material? I dunno...

X-Men 4 would be incredibly expensive, whereas a Magneto movie would be relatively cheap. It wouldn't necessarily need to be a box office smash to turn a profit, and it may serve as an indicator of the potential success of future spin-offs.

...or, if Wolverine is successful, Fox may simply pursue that franchise instead and bury the Magneto project. Who knows?

i want to see this... there have been worse superhero movies made.

How a movie like this got greenlit baffles me too. It has absolutely no box office appeal. It's guaranteed to tank.

i agree with what someone said about holding on to the rights , **** fox those bastards

I look at this movie as a good opportunity for an X-men prequel. What with a young Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Storm and Beast. Throw in Magneto's Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch and you really have something good (explain why they left him) along with Mystique and Toad and I think this movie could be awesome.

I mean look at it this way. We get to see the very origins of the X-men and brotherhood. X-men is actually getting an origin movie as well as Wolverine (and they converge in X-men).

In a way though that could be considered a positive outcome for a better future use of the X-Men rights. :word:

Or it could be an Elektra and kill all momentum (Hey, Daredevil did make well over 100 mil).

Of all the X-men characters to do a spin-off on, why magneto? Sure the Holocuast beggining from the first X-men was really cool and scary, but does it really needed to be expanded upon? Should we really be putting fictional characters in real life tradgedies? Why not make a Xavier movie and show how the X-men was formed (sort of a prequel to X1)? Surely you could go into Magnetos backstory in a movie like that. This whole idea reeks of an Elektra size flop. Or a Hannibal Rising size flop (same gimmick). Wolverine? People will get in line for that. This? I don't know. I would be more optimistic if it wern't for that disaster of a third film. I don't really like David Goyer either. Batman Begins was amazing, but something tells me his involvement in that was more limited than Chris Nolans.
Should you have actually made a thread over this seeing as your opinions on the matter won't change anything about this movie or future movies:o

I find it hard to believe anyone even floated the idea of a Magneto film. Never gonna happen. If there are any more X movies, they ought to not use Magneto at all.

I don't think this movie will be made, and if it is, I won't be convinced it won't be a dud until I see it and it's BO intake.

I hope this is just a badly named X-men 1 prequel because to quote Wolverine from the first movie, most people are going to be saying "Whats a Magneto?"

This thread is a good example of why FOX CAN'T listen to the fans.

Sometimes (most of the time) all they do is complain.

Money is the motivating factor. Fans know the character and he has worldwide exposure now, so it's time to pull another X3 and cash in.

I actually believe that a Magneto film has serious potential. There is a lot of rich layering to the character and the right script and director could nail it. Fox will find someway to ruin this project.

Personally, I feel that a stand alone Gambit film was a better choice. If Marvel had retained the rights, they could explore his history as a thief, why he leaves, and what motivates him to change. His comic lore is teaming with great ideas for a silver screen production.

It's true that some people will always complain, but in all fairness, Fox doesn't have the best track record. Let alone, one of the best.:o

I think it will do just fine.... this film might surprise you.

I like Magneto and everything (he's so deliciously evil), but I can't say that I think this is the best idea for a spin-off. I wouldn't go to see a Magneto movie in theatres.
I think that he's already gotten enough screentime as the villian in the X-movies. In fact, it kinda pissed me off that he was the main villian in ALL THREE MOVIES! Okay, maybe Phoenix was the villian in X3, but she was pretty ineffectual if you ask me. Magneto still managed to steal the spotlight in my opinion. They don't seem interested in exploring other villians from the comic books.
Okay, I'll stop ranting now. But in short, I think having a Magneto movie would be overkill.

should we put fictional characters in real life tradgedies? comic books are infamous for its characters being part of our reality thats why we like them, we can all think that they lurk among us or that we too could be one. Most of the comic books from WWII onward focus its attention to beating the Nazi's and Japenese and then later on anything that reaked communism. Some anaylist say that alien comic books derived from communism. And comic books predicted Pearl Harbor 1 month before it happened. Read: "Commies, Cowboys and Jungle Queens: Comic Books and America 1945-1954"

I also think this is a dumb idea.

Magneto isn't interesting enough to have his own film.

I think Storm, Phoenix, Gambit, or Cyclops spin-offs would have been better.

I totally agree with the thread maker.

What would the plots for their movies involve?
