Of all the X-men characters to do a spin-off on, why magneto? Sure the Holocuast beggining from the first X-men was really cool and scary, but does it really needed to be expanded upon? Should we really be putting fictional characters in real life tradgedies? Why not make a Xavier movie and show how the X-men was formed (sort of a prequel to X1)? Surely you could go into Magnetos backstory in a movie like that. This whole idea reeks of an Elektra size flop. Or a Hannibal Rising size flop (same gimmick). Wolverine? People will get in line for that. This? I don't know. I would be more optimistic if it wern't for that disaster of a third film. I don't really like David Goyer either. Batman Begins was amazing, but something tells me his involvement in that was more limited than Chris Nolans.

Because he's arguably the coolest and best character from the X-Men movies.

Magneto rules.

We'll see if you're still saying that in 09.

I think this movie isn't a bad idea, I think the Logan one is a worse one.

I totally agree. He's not an X-man and they have done everything they could with the character. I understand why they would want to make a Wolverine movie. They want to milk that cow for what it's worth but i doubt a Magneto movie is gonna be that succesful. Besides they should be making a great X-men movie. It's not like the last one was a masterpiece, far from it. Bah i hate spin offs :cmad:

I completely agree.

I'm interested in this movie. The possibilities are exciting. We could learn about Scarlet Witch and Quick Silver, his relationship with Xavier. Maybe the reason Xavier is in a wheel chair. I think of this more as a prequel to the X-Men movies, and not so much solely Magneto.

More to the point, how on earth do people still think this will actually get made?

Because this is Fox, and not WB.

magneto as an x-man villain has been completely overrated.

he's featured as a main baddie in three consectutive films and now he's getting a sequel...

er...no, he's not that interesting or important.

all the back log you ever want from his has already been told

And the same can be said for Wolverine. In fact, I know a lot more about Logan that I do about Magneto from the movies.

And Magneto was only the main villain in 2 of the films.

from the minute mystique got the blueprints to cerebro, he was the main villain. we just aren't aware of it.

that's more than half the film.

Striker is the main Villain. Plain and simple. Magneto has a prominent role, yes. But he's only the 'main' baddie in X1 and X3.

I don't see any other villain from the X-Men universe that would hold up well in a solo movie..

If they go in this direction I think they can make an awesome movie that's not just action scene after action scene.

Out of the 3 X-Men movies... we have never seen Mag at full force...
There is a lot that they can do in this even with out the X-Men in it.
I'm looking forward to this one more than Logan since almost everyone knows about LOgan's past in the Movies.

Mag is a Class 5 Mutant that can unleash unbelivable destruction. Just think about what he can do before the X-Men are created to stop him. Just think about Mag against the Army or even against the Sentinels.

mr sinister

or what about the hellfire club or even the pheonix

I think an apocalypse movie about his past and travelling into the future would also be an excellent concept.

all those three stories especially some sort of hellfire club/pheonix combo would be better than the story of magneto

your missing the point.. the movie is supposed to be about Magneto and Xavier in the old days..

well at least, a future x4 won't be about magneto if he's having a spinoff
im still waiting for AoA saga :woot:

Fox is just trying to stall and hold on to the rights. They know if they don't do Magneto, Marvel Studios will get the rights to X-men back sooner than later.

Fox has no interest in anything else. Not the character, not the mythos, and definitely not the fans.

They're just trying to milk this puppy dry while they still can. Expect the typical lazy, rushed, half-assed treatment for this movie too.

Nuff said.

This, like the Wolverine film, is nothing more an attempt by Fox to milk everything X-men for all it's worth.

Is Fox in financial straits or something? I don't see any kind of creative spark or effort in their latest films. It's just "get in quick with as little risk as possible and cash out faster. If we make anything extra, it's a bonus."

Why have a vilain solo film at all??!! Do a Red and Slim film. Or a Gambit film. A Collosuss/Nightcrawler buddy film would be great! I don't see MAgneto making ANY money!

I'm definately not going to pay to go to the theater and see this one. I mean this will be one of the ones that I wait till it comes to the rental store. I agree that this is going to be a flop like Elektra. I mean I rented Elektra this week and there was more back story and boring crap than action. I dont' know, it just was a long drawn out movie with a few fight scenes in my opinion.
