Six days ago was the 5th anniversary of September 11th, the tragedy that claimed thousands of lives, my fiance and I were driving down a local street in town and happened to pass by a Veteranany Hostpital of which had a small billboard posted out front that is usualy ment to deliver daily messages to the public about its times and services, as we passed by we noticed that instead of the regular messages posted it said "REST IN PEACE STEVE IRWIN".........on 9/11....the anniversary date of thousands this institution chose to acknowledge the death of an Austrailian Crocodile Hunter who made a living off of ****ING with dangerous animals, instead of acknowledging the tragedy that AT ONE TIME touched the lives of so many americans......now as tacky and distatsfull as I thought this was, I understood that it was an animal hospital and I could see some, not much, but some reason for doing this so I let it go......but not three blocks later we passed a church with its own small board on the front lawn, now of course I could suspect to see some testimate, some tribute, some small fraction of sympathy for those who lost their lives five years earlier on this day......right?......NO! As we passed by the church once again I saw "REST IN PEACE STEVE IRWIN, WE WILL MISS YOU"......W.T.F.?

Are we such a pathetic country that celebrities are more important to us that the deaths of thousands?! Have we lost all tact and morality? Why is the death od ONE Austrailian thrillseaker more important than the thousands of men women and children who were killed by terrorist actions on our own soil? This makes me sick, and those of you who know me would know that I am not one of those Right Wing Republicans bashing the libral media, personaly I hate Georgey Boy and I think Cheney need to shoot himself in the face! I love the Media, I loved Steve Irwin, I thought his death was very unfortunate but he made his living off of placing himself in dangerous situations, it wasn't that inexpected! I feel sorry for his family and wish that it didn't happen. he was a wonderfull and energetc, lovely man, but he was a thrill seaker who died from thrillseaking! Not and inocent bystander who decided to take his kids to work with him at the twin towers and had a plane flown into him!

I want to know your feelings on this, are there any others who are as asamed of our country for this?

I think it was one place, which isnt enough for you to look at it as though it represents the entire country.

Yeah, I was driving through the middle of nowhere and I saw people on overpasses waving the american flag and holding up peace signs....I saw tons of flags at half-mass as well..

9/11 was five years ago. Was it a terrible event? Yes. But we're not going to go anywhere if we keep dwelling on it.

Does this really surprise you? Human beings nowadays have the recollection capacities of an insect. If you don't tell them what the date is they won't even respect the event.

Are we such a pathetic country that celebrities are more important to us that the deaths of thousands?! Have we lost all tact and morality? Why is the death od ONE Austrailian thrillseaker more important than the thousands of men women and children who were killed by terrorist actions on our own soil?

You have a point, though I think you're taking too much offense. It was sort of a stupid move for the church to do that, but I don't think it was to disgrace the memory of those who died. I think it was just to offer condolensces. Was it sorely misplaced? Yes. But I don't think the tagline with it was 'screw 9/11'.

This makes me sick, and those of you who know me would know that I am not one of those Right Wing Republicans bashing the libral media, personaly I hate Georgey Boy and I think Cheney need to shoot himself in the face!

...Back to why people say things without logic in a bit...

He was a conservationist who has been taking a lot of flak for his behavior, but people are acting as if no other person in the world has ever done something dangerous for the sake of education. I disagree. Why you would love the media is beyond me, though; part of the idiocy about reporting has helped the stupidity we see on the tube move along.

I want to know your feelings on this, are there any others who are as asamed of our country for this?

Not really. Most people don't want to remember 9/11 because apparently historical events should be increasingly forgotten as time ebbs by. This is why people can't remember things like 'that one time Israel fought the countries surrounding it' or 'that one time the Brits attacked us'.

Steves demise happen so close to the anni.,it would have been in poor taste to take it down so soon after.

But that seems to be an isolated situation because there were tons of events taking place an honor of the 5 year anni.

Is "inexpected" even a word?

'U' and 'I' are rather close together on the keyboard...when one types rather fast, grammatical errors do ensue...

You know what?

Today is Citizenship Day.

I drove by a church and they had "Peace be with you" on the billboard. :cmad:

Get over yourself.

You don't get to tell people to grieve. You don't get to tell people to keep feeling depressed.

9/11 was five years ago. If I were an American I'd be ashamed of you for being an idiot.

we had 5 yeasr to mourn 9/11

Steve Irwin wont be rememberd in 5 years, so its better to mourn his loss as it happened

People have a choice to mourn what they want to mourn and that's all there is to it, if those said places wanted to honour a man who made a huge impact on millions of lives then that is their choice... if you want to respect those who died on 9/11 that is your choice... it's time to let the tragedy stay in the past and look towards the future... 5 years is a long time... 5 days isn't

September 11 was bad,but its not the single most tragic event in world history.Keep that in mind,Steve Irwin fought for animal`s rights, animals which are more important than people.

I agree that we don't have our priorities straight in some circumstances.

But, would you really want to switch Presidents right in the middle of a war?
