How to Train Your Dragon - Spring 2010

i see now. all of this is because its a kids CGI movie.CGI dreamwork and PIXAR movies are very bright.

3D can not be cleaner. but it can be sharper when something is moving. but this is because its a 100% CGI movie.

I haven't seen it, but the marketing of vikings and dragons towards kids makes me giggle. Hey kids! Want to dress up as raping, pillaging murderers or covetous, fire-breathing monsters?

They're gonna grow up to be one or the other anyway depending on their gender. :o

This movie is downright brilliant. From a kick-ass soundtrack to a children movie that has BALLS. It's just perfect. Truly deserves all the positive critism and so forth.

Wow I didnt think this film would be that good , I loved everything about.

I just got back from seeing this. I saw the 3D version, but within 10 minutes I was sorry I didn't wait for the later IMAX show to start. It was amazing. Easily the best movie I've seen so far this year.

I saw the 2D version. The 3D from what I hear is another perfect example of Hollywood trying to jump on the 3D train without putting any effort into it and expecting big cash from it.

The story itself was your typical zero to hero plot about a boy who is the weakest and least skilled in a Viking tribe and eventually becomes the hero of the tribe. However, the story flows well and offers enough interesting character interactions and entertaining hidden adult jokes to keep you interested. The real meat of the film in this regard is the interaction between the boy and his dragon. The dragon doesn’t speak, but still conveys just as much emotion as a talking character. It’s here where the story really focuses on that relationship and the hatred between the Vikings and the dragons they fight on a nearly daily basis.

The CGI was really impressive. And even though they use the typical exaggerated body shapes that most CGI films seem to be stuck using, they managed to throw in some photorealistic elements that really gave the film strong visuals. (the skin and hair were particularly impressive) The dragons themselves were given really fun designs, much better than the standard dragons you might see in other films and the dragons were given very cat-like mannerism, which made their appeal even better.

Overall, I really enjoyed the film and recommend it if you are looking for a family film with enough content to keep adults entertained as well.

(now can we please have some sci-fi non-kiddy CGI???)

Dear God. It's like Pirates of the Caribbean all over again.

Yeah HTTYD has alot of competition and with 3D tickets rising it makes people question are they fed up with 3D already? It's competition is Alice in Wonderland and now Clash of the Titans. Let's hope they make up for the budget. This movie deserves a sequal.

I'd have to blame the marketing abit tho. All the tv spots and trailers make it look like a stupid children's comedy.

Not at all. I've seen it 3D twice now and the 3D was fantastic. This one was actually filmed for 3D, unlike Alice in Wonderland and Clash of the Titans which was converted after the fact, and the difference is obvious.

I thought the battle scene was as good as anything you'd seen in a regular live action movie, and the 3D just made it even better. It was incredibly impressive, I wasn't expecting it to be that good.

Watching it you think...this is how 3D should be used...not tacking it onto every movie just for an extra box office grab.

One of the downfalls of the rushed converted stuff is that it really takes away from how cool the technology is when it's used right, like it was here.

I was gonna watch this movie today, but I spent the whole day on Wookieepedia and missed my chance. :csad:

Too bad this movie doesn't get more praise and deserves better than a 6 month dead thread on this board. Easily the most impressive thing I've seen this year, though I missed it in 3D :(

I saw this last week. I gotta say, I regret not catching it in theaters in 3D. This movie was incredible. Easily Dreamworks' best since "Shrek". I didn't think it was better than "Toy Story 3" so I'm not expecting it to turn heads at the Oscars but it still deserves to be nominated. It had a lot of heart, and I loved the ending.

This movie blew me away. It was really exciting and moving.

i loved that shot of the dragon helping hiccup to walk. i was like omg did dreamworks just achieve symbolism? they did, and its awesome! can't wait to see this again.

So who picked up the two disc dvd?
heh so the Legend of the BoneKnapper wasn't long but it was cool! THOR made a cameo! lol

This is my favorite movie this year. Seen it in 3d and been waiting with bated breath for two months for it to hit dvd release. Don't know how they'd handle a sequel to this , but count me there when they do.

I was shocked at how good this was, I had to double check to make sure it wasn't a Pixar movie. :o The dragon at the end was simply incredible. I wasn't expecting something so bad ass.

I saw this with my wife at a drive in theater and couldn't hear it very well so I didn't enjoy it so much. I'm looking forward to seeing it again at home and hopefully enjoy it a bit more.

did anyone see that 30 min short "legend of the boneknapper dragon" attached to the movie?

should i bother renting the short on netflix? i hate how its a seperate disc than the movie.

I liked it. It had the same feel as the main movie just as funny, but

There are DRAWN animation scenes. See Gobber is telling the kids tall stories about the Boneknapper chasing him for years as they go hunting for the dragon. Those stories are the Drawn Animation while the rest of the film is the CGI.

I PERSONALLY would rent The Legend of the BoneKnapper being a fan of the main film. Heck I BOUGHT it. :D

This movie was AMAZING.

Just picked it up on Bluray and watched it last night. Very solid story and the action pieces were great. The cg animation was quality.

The biggest surprise was the action. I didn't expect this movie to be so action heavy.

9/10 :woot:
