How will Captain America do internationally? Would an Captain America movie be popular in France, Germany, etc.

I suspect it will do reasonably well in those countries, especially Germany. Marvel has taken great pains to remove all traces of Nazis and swastikas from Captain America that the most right winged Neo-Nazi will not be offended.

They even dropped the name Captain America and are just calling it The First Avenger...im not kidding!

Hell I bet even the Taliban will like this movie!

TheMayor, if you really think the movie will be that bad...then why don't you just stop posting? This is a legitimate question, I'm not trying to be mean,

For example: I'm not super excited about the Green Lantern movie, and that's why I don't go to those boards. I'm not into ballet, so I don't go to baller boards. I'm not into the Harry Potter movies and I think they all look kinda dumb, so I don't go to those boards either. I'm just curious as to why you don't take the same approach.

To stay on topic and try to answer the question: I really have NO idea. :)

I stay on topic. He asked a question, I answered it truthfully. You want to ask me questions? Send me a pm or make a thread titled "Ask the Mayor a question" or something like that.

I wouldn't bother engaging themayor in any real conversation, he's a troll for trolling's sake.

And just to add I've only heard of Captain America having a title change in Russia, Ukraine and South Korea. I've yet to hear a widespread name change in European countries like Germany, France and UK etc. Also, there is a whol Nazi thread that half of what he's spouted here has played out several times over. Basically it boils down to "I don't believe in Nazis without Swastikas".

Yes because Germany is full of Neo Nazi's...

There is probably more Neo Nazi's in America than there is Germany.

Anyway, I think it might actually bomb over seas. It's got a hard enough task ahead of it appealing to people outside of America who don't actually know what Steve Rogers is about.

Then you factor in the absolute box office monster that the last Harry Potter film will be...

This is probably the stupidest post you've ever made, and that's saying something.

On behalf of all Germans, I take exception to this. Contrary to popular belief, Neo-Nazis aren't peculiar to this country (thank you, Morningstar). Also, it's exactly the absence of swastikas that will make this movie unattractive to Neo-Nazis. But they hardly matter in terms of box office, so...

While Captain America doesn't have the same status internationally as in the USA, if it's a good movie with a good story, I think it will do well. For the general audience, word of mouth is more important than any preconceived ideas about the character, imo.

I agree that the movie being good is going to be more important to the audience than it being American, I think there is a thread around here about how an international audience might react and showed that Captain America is a recognisable brand internationally.

Also I think people over estimate or put too much face value into people thinking that America has a bad reputation over seas. I'm fairly confident this movie will do well in the UK and the rest of Europe.

World War II ended quite some time ago, The Mayor. How about sticking to the topic instead of making dumb assumptions?

There is no reason to make a claim like that other than to offend people, and a claim like that is VERY likely to offend. Don't do it again.

I don't buy that this movie can't do decently overseas just because it's named Captain America. If it's marketed correctly and looks appealing to people outside of the states I see no reason why it can't do 150 to 200mil, especially when you factor in 3D inflating the ticket prices.

I can see people laughing it off based on the title alone, but the trailer will make them think it actually looks pretty good.

I can see the conection to IM/Thor/Avengers being a little extra incentive for some people to go see it who might have otherwise passed.

My friend and I are both looking forward to it, so that's a solid 2 tickets for Ireland. ;)

the marketing here is desasterous! I just went home from Thor, watched it with about 50 hardcore fanboys. most of them didn't knew the movie comes out. and those who knew were still surprised that it comes out this summer and not next year. there is absolutely no promotion in our cinemas. no posters, no trailer, no standee...
and if a pack of nerdy fanboys isn't informed about the existence of that movie, how should the GA know?

Does not compute. If they're REALLY "hardcore fanboys" they they WOULD know that the movie was coming out. If they DIDN'T know the movie was coming out, then they're NOT hardcore fanboys.

Edit: Just noticed that you're in Austria. You may have a point then. :) When does it open there?

august 18th, as far as I know.

Heh I see The Mayor has resurfaced.

I think it will do okay. Internationally it gets released two weeks after Harry Potter so it won't have much competition.

August?!! Wow, how comes so much later over there?

I'm not surprised there is no more trailers or posters in the cinemas then. That's like a whole 3 months away.

I'm sure once Thor is winding down the Cap American marketing blitz will begin.

3 months before Thor I've already seen trailers of the movie quite a few times attached to a lot of movies and the first one sheet posters were everywhere. PLUS you had the post credit scene from IM2. people knew Thor was coming.

3 months before Cap, I've to tell everyone that the movie is coming out or they wouldn't know. there Is a trailer, but only on the internet and not attached to any movie, not even to Thor, there are no posters and Thors post credit scene was more about Avengers than The First Avenger.

I do hope Cap will make good money here in Austria, but with the lack of promotion I'm very pessimistic at the moment.

Why it's out in August and not in July, I don't know. There is really no reason for that

3 Months before Thor people were doing the same thing you were doing: complaining about how there isn't really any marketing for Thor. Calm down, the marketing will come. It came for Thor, and it will come for Cap. You don't see any advertisements for any other July (or in your case, August) movies yet. Stop worrying.

I think it'll do fine, tbh. Captain America is a hero that seems to draw people in, from what I've seen. I just hope I'm right.

You get me wrong. I'm not complaining. I'll see it anyway so for me nothing changes. I just added to the original question, hw the movie will do internationally by stating, that people arond here have no idea yet the movie comes out.

Oh okay. I'm sorry about that. I thought you were starting another rant about Marvel's marketing like our good ole friend Mayor.

oh no, I'M sorry if it looked like that. It certainly wasn't my intention.
