How will Thor fly?

I don't know, I personally don't see how Superman came to have some kind of universal monopoly on flight. Plenty of heroes fly in the comics.

Would like to see Thor fly by propelling himself with his hammer, but it will not make or break the movie either way.

From what I heard from the comics, Thor twirls his hammer then grabs on to it for flight. It would be interesting to see the movie put this in and try to make some sensical way of how it works, heck look at Destroyer he's a magical suit of armor!

Flying man, bright red cape. I can think of alot of people that would compare the two.

Since they don't think that the spinning can be pulled off right on screen. I think that, if he could throw the hammer, and show it really pulling him. That WOULD be a great visual. Or, like you said, maybe have the hammer glowing with lighting coming out of it. Maybe the force of lighting bolts could propel him....:csad: That's just what Im' running with.

I still think the Hammer Throw twirl/spin athletes use in the Hammer Throw event could work.

I'd want to see him fly regardless. It's kind of a major part of his powers. Just chalk it up to riding air currents like Storm, if anything. Being a thunder god's gotta be good for more than shooting lightning, right? ;)

Well, remember, this is MARVEL - don't put it by them to make him not be able to fly. He's already emasculated in the Marvel cartoon Hulk vs. Thor. I'm waiting to see how else they're going to downgrade him.

I'm still wondering why the Hammer Spin doesn't work on screen for them...It's not like the thing has to spin at 200 mph. You seen stuff like nun-chucks being spun and movies and it looks good.:o

Sorry, that's just my thought on that subject.

Probably the way nunchucks are built. I can see how swinging a rather heavy hammer around by a leather thong on one end would be a hell of a lot more awkward than swinging a nunchuck that is perfectly counterbalanced by an identical nunchuck across a chain.

LOL,oh my god TheCorpulent1,the whole time that you were talking about Thor's hammer with a thong,I kept thinking about the kind of thong that a hot chick would wear. And now I finally realize that by thong you mean strap.

It would be funny if it was Jane's thong in the movie. :hehe:

"For Odin,for Jane's thong!"

"What?"-Jane :awesome::awesome::awesome::awesome::awesome:

Wait, no...

You do realize that that was what I honestly thought when TheCorpulent1 would bring up the thong on Thor's hammer, right? I wasn't even trying to be funny to begin with.

It's the cold medicine, just ignore me. I'll fall asleep sooner or later.

lulz, Marvel started calling it a "thong" in the comics long ago, so that's just how I think of it. :D

O.o

I see, okay which title and issue did it start in?

I don't know, exactly. It's just always been called a leather thong as far as I can remember. Maybe it started back in the '80s with the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe. I remember it being part of Thor's profile.

No I think you misunderstand, the OLYMPIC Hammer Throw is not that difficult for ANYONE to do.

thong n.

1. A narrow strip, as of leather, used for binding or lashing.
2. A whip of plaited leather or cord.
3. A sandal held on the foot by a strip that fits between the first and second toes and is connected to a strap usually passing over the top or around the sides of the foot.
4. A garment for the lower body that exposes the buttocks, consisting of a narrow strip of fabric that passes between the thighs supported by a waistband.

You are all correct!

THIS hammer Throw has been around for thousands of years, it's odd Kirby hadn't actually used it.

heh WT I work in leather as well as drawing, wood carving, and Chain Maile making. :D I do know what it is other than Undies.

'twas just a public service for everyone so I could feel useful.

I agree with you Vartha. The hammer toss has been around forever, and to not be able to incorporate something even if not exactly as depicted in the comics seems a little lame. However, if they can't do something with the spinning hammer, it would still be nice to see him throw the hammer and catch the strap essentially pulling him through the air. It may not be flying exactly, because his hammer toss would still be bound by the laws of gravity, (but much like when Hulk jumps great distances) it would be close enough to flying for me. Like I said before though, to me it will not make or break the movie, but seeing it would be a definite bonus.

Not sure why the practicality of the hammer spin on film needs to be a show stopper for Thor's ability to fly.

Anyone remember The Mighty Mightor? He would use his club to fly, and his take off looked fine. He would raise his club over his head, lower his arm a bit bending it at the elbow, then thrust the club skyward and it would lift him skyward.

This is the Marvel comic book version of Thor, at least I hope it turns out to be?

If Thor doesn't do the spin with his hammer and then fly, that will just be a huge dissappointment for me! I mean come on, with the CGI tech we have today there's absolutely no excuse not to have this iconic part of Thor in the film!

The main problem I see with comic book movies is that, they don't stick to or follow the comic book!
