I must say, I've been reading this site since Ashton Kutcher was rumored to be in tights back in the early 00s...but no movie prompted me to sign up here.

This is like waiting for a hyped up SEC football game,Doomsday, Y2k or The Rapture. It has been a unique experience(for me) for this comic book movie, since it was filmed in my hometown(at least before the reshoots) and I personally heard from crew members what a "not so nice guy" Trank was, local actors and industry types saying what a mess the production was. A bartender friend saying MBJ was a real nice guy and Kate Mara was bugging him to open the pool table that's closed when they are packed(and they were), then got a free bottle of liquor for her troubles (even though she's NFL royalty twice over).

As I've grown older, now with a son of my own, I've read the source material and become fascinated with the F4 and Future Foundation. I want the IP back in Marvel's hands, I've made no secrets about that, it's what I believe is best for the IP.

Their current event, Secret Wars, is almost like telling the public "This is a F4 story, for you"...

Anyways, has the "healthy" movie debate been any more significant to you than other CBMs?

Are you hoping to be proven right or just not proven wrong?

Will you come here to gloat?

tia.

It's been great to come here and vent with mostly like minded folks.
After the first two movies I would never have expected them to go in this direction--- lower budget, less known actors and even further from the source material.
The number of people who generally felt this way has been comforting and cathartic.
If the movie bombs bad it will feel sort of vindicating for those of us who had misgivings as this unfolded.
But the "joy" of being proven right pales to the joy I would have gotten from a serious faithful, big budget FF epic movie.
I've seen nearly all my childhood heroes as faithfully as possible brought to life on the screen and I am glad for that. A FF epic movie would have been icing at this point and the glass is definitely more than half full for me.
I guess I was hoping for an actual effort to be faithful to the actual 1960s-1980s comic more than I was demanding a success. You can't succeed if you don't try and it seems they didn't care or try to do it right.
If they wanted to tell another story than classic FF they should simply have created a new franchise completely. But it has been fun. Don't know if I'll post as much after ---hit or miss.

It's more about Jonathan Hickman concluding his stories with Marvel more than anything else.

Rude behaviour is againts the rules mister! ;)

I love Hickman, but Marvel knows what they are doing with this.

They are giving the ultimate throw down written by a guy who's written both versions of the F4.

It's not an Avenger or an X-Man who is the hero of this story...that's say something considering how heavy editorial mandate is at the Big Two.

Yes they do, they are letting Hickman's name and Secret Wars nostalgia brand recognition thrive while Hickman tells his big conclusion to his Fantastic Four and Avengers runs. This isn't some conspiracy theory man, this is Marvel knowing that hickman sells.

I mean, Marvel canceled FF comic and split the team apart with Thing being part of GOTG and Johnny joining the inhumans, that's something we can see more as an effect on the FF Movie rights than anything else.

They are giving the ultimate throw down written by a guy who's written both versions of the F4.

Well technically speaking Hickman has written Ultimate Reed, not Ultimate FF. However he has written plenty of alternate versions of the FF.

I hope this is going to be a great film.

But I am 99% sure it's crap that will be absolutely torn apart by the critics. I hope I'm wrong and if so, I'll check it out this weekend.

But I think the truth will become painfully obvious within the next couple days and then it will just be: "What's next?"

To answer the thread topic question I and others have found this place to be inhospitable to those anticipating the movie.

Since before there was any photos or footage this section has been more of a social club for a small selection of members against the movie out of politics, who sling about disparaging acronyms and terms freely and with glee

Every bit of news has been twisted to fuel the hate-wagon, not just most which would be perfectly acceptable but everything and that shows agenda.

I'm by no means saying that the marketing of this movie has been great or even good just that there has been positive things (statistical probability) and even those positive things have been railroaded automatically. For example any positive social media reactions elicit comments of 'well they're paid to say that', complaints of delayed marketing becomes denigrating the forms of marketing when they do come, saying 'they're so ashamed of the movie they're not showing any new footage haha' then when new footage is released its raked across the coals.

There's not liking what you see on a by-basis and then there's raging against everything related to the movies existence. One is expressing opinion and the other is just automatic hate

Its such attitude, entitlement and toxic behaviour that has had members post that they're leaving the section and won't return until the movie releases because they can't express an interest without being either insulted or dismissed as plants or 'not true fans'

I believe people should be allowed to post that they're looking to forward to the movie without being ostracised or insulted and vice versa.

Aside from the reaction to those anticipating i have found it mystifying how this movie is continually treated as an in-accurate adaption of 616 when it's not an adaption of 616 but a clear adaption of UFF and mostly accurate to that version.

Well its funny you mention Marvel's mega event SECRET WARS, look at Hickman's beautiful, almost Shakespearean writing, its a thing of beauty and seeing the REAL Doctor Doom at the center of it as God Emperor over ALL of reality, fulfilling his dream of universal domination. Seeing Reed Richards as well being written as Reed should be, the ultimate rivalry and culmination of 50 plus years of F4 stories....it just saddens me at what is coming from Fox for the 3rd time, that will NEVER remotely touch the style and substance that Marvel has been producing for years.

I am not going to turn this into a sadistic rant against this film as I have said and done so much to get a lot of people I care about to ultimately not go see this. We are speaking with our wallet, that is the only way Fox will learn...maybe.

My wife and I were watching television a few days ago when an ad for FFINO darkened our screen. She asked me "Why are they making another one of these?", causing me to launch into a tirade about cinematic rights grabs due to 90s era studio licensing agreements.

This forum has been very good for my marriage.

What you do is your prerogative l but just to be clear you are telling your friends & family to follow your opinion (on a movie you haven't seen) rather than form their own so as to enforce an agenda to deny the movie money?

My sister went to see Jurassic World. I had no interest in the movie but no way would I tell her to follow my views or interests and skip the movie as that would be ridiculous IMO

:funny:

I haven't bored my wife with all the goings on, but whenever we sit in a theater and see previews, we'll typically look at each other and give a thumbs-up or thumbs-down after each one.

After the FF preview at Ant-Man, I looked at her and gave her the thumbs-down.

Her jaw fell open and she said: "How could you not want to see a Fantastic Four movie?!?!" Knowing, of course, that I have an attic full of FF comic books and closets full of toys, T-Shirts, watches, key chains etc.

It's a long story. :o

What about your agenda? And don't even pretend like the insults haven't gone both ways. The mods have tried to be as fair as possible and have even disciplined people this past week but you continue to spout off about other people. No one's talking about other people. They're talking about the film. You can't seem to stay on point. You are as big of a part of the problem as any of those that you continually try and villify. My question is why are you not getting disciplined?

Yeah - my friend asked me the same thing. I just said - no thanks. It's a long story.

My experience on this forum has been a hell of a lot more fun than what the film will end up being. Getting together with other people and venting your rage and making jokes does the mind good.

Yeah I agree. It's been cool discovering people that grew up with the comics and love the characters as much as I do and can actually understand why this film is such a disappointment. Other people just don't "get it".

I also have to say that I've been to a lot of forums and there's a lot of hate out there for this film but this is absolutely the most civil place to discuss it on the entire web that I've found.

Exactly. Like I touched on in my above post, my wife doesn't care about any of this, so I'd have to explain it all before trying to communicate why some new news bit was so annoying.

People here get it. So I can discuss and laugh (to avoid crying) with people who won't just give me a blank stare of incomprehension.

And posts that have a different view-point from mine (and there are certainly many on here) don't hurt me in any way. Why should I care if someone else thinks this looks like a great movie? I don't need to argue with them and convince them otherwise.

I think that's where the conflict comes in. Some people can't accept differing points of view so they feel compelled to argue and try to convince others to see it their way. Which, of course, is a futile activity and will ultimately just lead to an unpleasant experience.

See? This is why I come here.

ow would I describe my experience with this movie genesis ? A pain in the a##, like Trank behavior.

The rights were pretty close to revert to Marvel, which would have offered us a movie which could have be a mix between the Incredibles and the GOTG, which would have been a nice and fun experience.

That wasn't the case, but we could have had a movie like that done by FOX. Yes, we could, but we won't.

Thanks to FOX, who wanted the cheapest possible movie, and Trank, who wanted a dark and twisted movie that bear no ressemblance to the original FF, this production has turned into a nightmare for everyone.

I know that I'm a hot blooded strong minded guy, but Trank behavior is unforgivable. I know that he is supposed to be some kind of victim who was bullied because of his big b##bs, but it's bulls##t ! Many people here, myself included, have suffered during childhood from being mocked, etc... Yet by reaching the adulthood we turn ourself into "normal" adult. We don't want or need aggressing the other people for no reason or proving that they are always wrong and us always right. Yes, sometimes we have our ego, we don't like to be proven wrong, but we're not stopping to take phonecall because we disagrea with the studios...

When all will be said and done, only one question will be asked. "Why ?" "X Men apocalypse" seems good, DOFP was (very) good, Deadpool seems fun. So why, why have the fantastic four franchise inherit a whining unprofessional child (the guy is 30 years old but act like a spoiled child) while the X Men have talented (and professional) directors who respect fans and are respected by them like Singer or Vaughn.

The worst thing is that I have absolutely no empathy for Trank. Yes, he is a mentally disturbed and f##ked up guy, but he is just annoying, and in the worst kind of way.

On the other hand, I feel bad for C.Lee or Willie, who are old fans, and have been the victim of a bad scenario which keeps repeating. Corman, Story, now Trank... the sames mistakes, the same (bad) result.

Now I must hope that the movie fail in BO, so one day a good FF movie will be made. It's insane, we all should hope that any new movie have to be awesome. But FOX will keep basta###ing the franchise if the new movie is a success. It's really the shame.

I think my pre release experience can be summed up by 4 events

1. A member saying something along the lines of "I don't care if this is a good movie or bad movie it's not a part of the MCU so I don't like it" months ago
2. A member saying they hope that FOX has plants go to Comic Con to cheer for the movie
3. Members voting Fanstastic Four a "1" before the movie even came out
4. A member voting Fantastic Four as "The Best Superhero Reboot" before even seeing the film.

Both sides were filled with such silliness and sadness, it actually kinda bummed me out. But like trash TV or a car wreck I couldn't stop watching or commenting. I do think the time on this forum will be way more interesting than the final film.

Simple!

The Fantastic Four franchise = 10 Years a slave!

Fox = The oppressors

MCU = Freedom

Eddie, Willie Lumpkin, Ragnaroknroll, Dark Raven, Flint Marko etc. = The Freedom Fighters

I didn't force my opinion on anyone. Everyone who knows me, knows I am extremely passionate when it comes to the subject of F4 and Doom and the idea of them being integrated into a Marvel controlled movieverse. They know my ideas of how the 4 and Doom could be used in Phase 3/4/5. It just happens that they saw the trailers themselves and thought it looked like crap. I gave my reasons as to why this movie needs to fail and just go away and they happened to agree.

I saw this on another forum and it sums up my thought on this pretty well so I'm gonna post it here.

Nothing in this film is from Ultimate F4.

In Ultimate F4:

Ben is a big buff guy not tiny Billy Elliott.

Johnny is Caucasian.

Sue is not adopted.

Reed is younger than Miles Teller.

They don't wear absurdly stupid generic black outfits with slinkies and bungee cords as accessories.

The device to go to the N Zone looks complete different.

They don't actually go explore the N Zone, the machine blows up and when they come to they have powers.

The N Zone is never called Planet Zero.

Doom is not a blogger named Domashev.

Doom is not covered in trash bags.

Doom doesn't look like Freddy Krueger.

Harvey Elder is not in it.

Ultimate Mole Man(and 616 Mole Man for that matter) was never a normal guy who wore a suit.

Ben wore pants.

Ben wasn't a generic rock monster.

This isn't just 616 FFINO, it's Ultimate FFINO as well.

This isn't just 616 FFINO, it's Ultimate FFINO as well.

I can't believe posters here are STILL making that BS "Ultimate Fantastic Four" argument after being disproven about that multiple times.
