How would you feel about a superhero movie with no fight scenes?

Superheroes are still action heroes. Unless their powers are mental they're supposed to be seen taking action. They need to resolve the conflict.
Action isn't the same as fighting, it could just be car chases, explosions and showcase of powers.

It's something I've thought about a lot over the years. Do superhero movies need fight scenes? Can a superhero story be told without them? If it can't, why is that? If it can, how would that be accomplished, and in what ways would it change the story and the genre? If it can be done, what purpose would it serve to tell a superhero story without fight scenes, and what purpose do fight scenes serve in the first place?

What do you guys think?

Movies don't need action/fight scenes, action movies do. I personally don't see superheroes as a genre, rather a medium to tell stories.
I'd say no.

Unbreakable wasn't an action movie. There was a scene with a strangling. That wasn't for the purpose of 'action' so much of suspense though.

Superman Returns has no fight scenes (at least involving the lead character - Superman)

Now, we all are familiar to fans reactions to SR, that answers the Original Poster's question.

That can only go so far before the hero needs to directly engage with the villains. It depends on the nature of the super powers, but physical ones will usually invite a fight. Even if the hero just needs to slap the villain into unconsciousness that's a fight.

Just re-watched Superman the movie. Maybe it's nostalgia talking, but that film is still beyond amazing and there are no real fight scenes.

But would that work in today's cinema, I'm still not 100% convinced, but after S TM I'm starting to think it might be possible. Might have to chang my earlier view.

Cheers.

I'd be vey interested in a superhero movie with no villain. just the hero using his powers for good and trying perhaps to better mankindm againt their will.

i'd love a superhero that basically elimates all firearms and tanks and missile silos from the world to have everybody equal but with the threat of M.A.D

The president could be one of the villains. President Tyrone McDrone.

Peaceman: "Mr President...let's step outside."

And then he makes the president apologize for all the dead civilians, soldiers and ruined homes and buildings before he takes on prime minister Killian Murdoc.

There's ONE scene of violence though. Peaceman kidnaps all the bad fascist cops and builds a giant taser. Zzzzap!:woot: no one dies, but some of them crap their pants off.
