Steven DeKnight said there is a visual clue to what Black Sky is in episode one and it's in one of Nobu's scenes. There is the meeting scene where Nobu doesn't do anything and the only things references about him are that he doesn't seem to feel cold and he's japanese.

"There is a mention of Black Sky in another episode that isn’t episode seven. If fans look closely at episode one, you will find a reference to Black Sky. It’s a visual reference to Black Sky and that's important to Nobu and his people.""

His other scene is at the end with a bunch of plans on a table, below are screencaps of them.

The only other thing I noticed was a symbol on his belt and the pin on the collar of this shirt.

Anyone have any ideas?

I think it's definitely the blueprint, now it's just a matter of dissecting the clue. Perhaps translating the characters?

I'm leaning towards the fact that Defenders is going to be a loose adaptation of Shadowland.

those japanese characters itself mean "black sky"

unless deknight was referencing some other visual clues, i think that's it.

I guess a Black Sky would create a "Shadow land". See what I did there?

Ive heard the possible tie in between the black Sky name and Skyy from AOS... perhaps it is inhuman? She is part Asian and her real name was Daisy, she was given that moniker later. She also may have been at the same orphanage as Matt Murdok.

Oh please, no. I don't need any huge crossovers going on with Agents of SHIELD. Keep them separate with tiny references only.

I think her being named Skyy being connected to it is quite a stretch

I think this guy is closest to an actual theory.

I agree both with this, for both Shadowland and The Beast (the kid Stick killed). "Black Sky" sounds better than "Shadowland" too.

This.

I think that just like with Claire Temple and Night Nurse, Marvel is combining a bunch of characters here. First, I think Nobu is short for Kagenobu Yoshioka (founder of the Hand) and Kirigi (a member of the Hand that keeps getting revived after dying). I'm thinking that Kirigi will become a name but a title for skilled Hand fighters. So I assume that the Hand will revive him or attempt to somewhere down the line (probably in Defenders).

Awesome.

I think the Chaste will try and recruit Matt, and we could potentially see Elektra come into play.

so what in the heck is black sky?

No one here is quite sure but it's been speculated that it has to do with The Hand and their demonic lord known as "The Beast", who took over Matt Murdock during the Shadowland arc/run.

I expect elements. The most obvious element I think it'll be missing is Matt being possessed by the beast.

I could also see a bit of the first major Daredevil Hand arc with the resurrection of Elektra (although that would require her death).

The Black Sky thing was the only really disappointing thing to me in the first season.

Even the fate of the kid was really vague. At least it was vague enough to suggest that maybe Stick didn't kill him. I mean he said he did, but we never see any proof. So he could've been lying.

All we can really glean is that he was probably an enslaved kid who probably had powers that Nobu's group wanted to use as a weapon. What their plan for the kid and New York still up in the air.

I like that some things in the first season set up things for the future. Jessica Jones seemed to do the same thing.

This. I'm sure all of those plot points will come together during the Defenders crossover.
